Another incomplete thought – “The Hannibal Electoral College”

Thought like that fly under the radar and land in your word processor while you’re swimming against the tide. This time it’s my cable modem that’s screwed up. It started about 1 am today, was still screwed up at 5:30 am when I got up for real, still no connection after work, so I called Time-Warner-Infinite-Hyphen. It’s a testimonial as to how good they are since I only mention them when they’re not working, but my ISP is RoadRunner™ - don’t you dare post a picture of Slobbering Sylvester.

So I look for a backup way to post to the blog. Immediately, my AT&T Global Network Client gets me online, but it has the unfortunate habit of bluescreening out on WANARP.SYS when I disconnect, a graceless departure. RoadRunner™ has a dial-up client too, but the damn installation won’t finish after I reboot and it tells me to call tech support. I’d already called them, they’re sending a guy over Wednesday. I know it will be fixed before Wednesday, they’ve always fixed their problems before the guy drives over. Meanwhile, I need a connection that can get me on the web (I’m addicted, BTW) without farting in my face when I shut it down to make an ordinary phone call.

I renamed WANARP.SYS, but then omni-bastard XP reinstalled it. I installed a newer version of the AT&T software and that’s what I’m using now. I downloaded a “fresh” version of the RoadRunner™ and soon I’ll see if that has some magic fairy dust. I predict it will, but that my cable connection will start working at the same time.
