On September 11, 2001, this man murdered as many as 2,750 Americans, several times more than Saddam Hussein killed in two Gulf Wars - though not nearly as many as Adolph Hitler killed in the Battle Of The Bulge. Beginning in 1992, Osama bin Laden has been responsible for the deaths of hundreds, if not thousands, more innocent people.

He is still at large and considered extremely dangerous. If you should spot him, do not attempt to apprehend him. You might get hurt. Contact the authorities. They are trained professionals, experienced in dealing with hardened criminals - kinda like the Roto-Rooter man just knows what to do when you get cockroaches. Evacuate the premises, defend yourself if necessary, and dial 911 with all diligent expedience whenever you sense immediate danger. The fate of a free galaxy depends on the clarity of your resolve under fire. Kirk out.

A picture named coriolis glory.jpg

It is not a small miracle that all these morning glories know to spiral, from their point of view, clockwise. Looking down on them, they spiral counterclockwise, like the hurricanes that will soon follow Columbus’ route across the Atlantic to wreak untidiness on the Carolina coast.

Do morning glories in the southern hemisphere, driven by the mystical god Coriolis, climb in a mirror image pattern, like the cyclones, clockwise? Is there a cyclone for each hurricane and a clockwise morning glory there for each counterclockwise morning glory here?  What if a butterfly disturbs the balance?

My cable modem is working again.

Whose idea was it to have him read the speech at a “War” College? Wonder if they have a continuing education program there...

I might go there to pick up some pointers in my war against the squirrels. Last year, I thought it had been won by the brute power of hardware. All the feeders are squirrel-proof with added obstructions to make it difficult to even get to them. A few squirrels still showed up to forage the spillage, but that’s okay. They don’t even bother getting on the feeders anymore.

Then I started an herb garden. Liz gave me the first reports of squirrel burrowing from her porch garden in another apartment complex. One of the little bastards dug up a dahlia bulb! Her neighbors, with many blooming plants, also complained of unprecedented squirrel robbery this year. It was not until this week that they attacked my herb garden. Most of the herbs are in hanging planters and they’ve left those alone so far, but they’ve dug up my chervil and basil in the planter box. I’ve salvaged them so far, but they are taking a beating.

I remember using pepper flakes to discourage them from digging up tulip bulbs, so I’m giving that a try. If the capsaicin taints the herbs, so much the better. I plan to stay the course and stop this insurgency. Next option: A paintball gun.

The Time-Warner™ cable connection is still broken. I got rid of the bluescreen with the AT&T Dialer by uninstalling and reinstalling, so now I can go online at 44k anytime I like. The RoadRunner™ dialer never did install. 44k sounded fast 10 years ago, but it’s way too slow for me now, so I’ve filched some wireless bandwidth from my NETGEAR neighbor to surf and read the news. Thanks, neighbor, whoever you are!
