Life? Who Needs A Life? – I’ve Got A Computer! (everything is broken part 9)

Just spent the last hour and a half getting Live Update for Norton Antivirus to work on computer #2. The Symantec website is most helpful and easily linked from the application. (1) I didn’t have the Gaobot virus that prevents updates, (2) There were no references to Symantec in my HOSTS files to delete, (3) deleting every file that contained *SYMANTEC.LIVEUPDATE in its name did the trick.

I just want to have fun and have installed Adobe Audition 1.5 and PhotoShop Elements this week. I want to make beautiful music and pictures, not fix the derned computer!

Ray Charles is dead.

We had a bomb scare at work today. It turned out to be smoke bombs by the tracks, left by “three masked men who departed in a pickup truck.” We were under heightened alert all day. Authorities suspect a connection to the G8 illuminati meeting at Sea Island, GA.

He was 73.

Chapel Hill schools were under a lockdown all afternoon because a murder suspect was sighted just before he escaped into the woods. They are now being bussed to neighboring schools.

He died of acute liver disease.

I learned today that Shenzhen, China, where I will visit in August, is the birthplace of SARS. Where I used to live, Columbus, Ohio, is right next to Reynoldsburg, birthplace of the tomato. New Orleans was the birthplace of jazz, but Brother Ray was born in Georgia. At an early age, he was blinded by a disease that was easily treatable even at that time.

The good news is that my replacement Roomba came today. I hope it lasts longer than 8 months. If you buy one, keep in mind that the warranty is only three months, so buy it somewhere that will sell you an extended 3-year replacement warranty. Those things are not normally a good idea, but this is an exception. Mechanical things break.

I think they should put Brother Ray’s picture on a $20 bill, if you catch my drift.
