A picture named spectral sound.jpg

Another spectral display – this time from NASA: Cassini-measured realization of solar wind meeting Saturn’s magnetic field. Listen to the audio on NPR, if you haven’t already. Audio interpretation of astral measurements is one of the most exciting developments in the space program. It’s as close as we’ll get to actually hearing the music of the spheres.

GOP Campaign 2004 Takes Focus: “Go Fuck Yourself!”

The expression first came to Dick Cheney in a moment of pure inspiration, but promises to catch on and be the biggest fad since the hula hoop. Charles Krauthammer takes the baton and runs with it in an editorial In Defense Of The F-Word.

He starts slowly, with a very Christian “If any among you is without sin, let him cast the first stone.” Yep, Charlie giggles, the “F-Word” (as he likes to call it in the civil environs of the WaPo OpEd page) is quite common and has even passed his lips.  Next, he lampoons the handwringers who objected to Cheney’s choice of words. After some historical and linguistic explorations of the word he dare not speak, he takes aim on his prime target, the real sinner, the man who threw the first stone: Al Gore, of course:

Odd. The day before first reports of Cheney's alleged indiscretion, his Democratic predecessor, Al Gore, delivered a public speech in which he spoke of the administration's establishing a "Bush gulag" around the world and using "digital brown shirts" to intimidate the media. The former vice president of the United States compared the current president to both Hitler and Stalin in the same speech -- a first not just in hyperbole but in calumny -- and nary a complaint is heard about a breach of civility.

If you suspect that this selective indignation may be partisan, you guessed right. But here's an even more important question. In the face of Gore's real breach of civil political discourse, which of the following is the right corrective: (a) offer a reasoned refutation of the charge that George Bush is both Stalinist and Hitlerian; (b) suggest an increase in Gore's medication; or (c) do a Cheney.

The correct answer is "C." And given the circumstances, go for the deuce.

So there you have it, Young Republicans. Forget your debating skills and Buckleyesque Thesaurical word skills. Dubya is above the law and he has a whole staff of lawyers who can prove it. He is of royal lineage, a king, one of the greatest since Louis XVI, he answers to no one. Of course, rational minds might disagree whether he or Rev. Moon is the Real Second Coming, but we know he’s in contention. We are fortunate to live in this time, to breathe the same air as this man. So he needs no justification.

Did somebody say Where are the WMDs?

Hey, Go Fuck Yourself!

Al-Qaeda ties?

…and the mother you rode in on.

Abu Ghraib?

yer mama...she ugly!

Halliburton no-bid contracts?

Hey, I got your Halliburton right here

The Republican political philosophy has been distilled to its purest essence.
