A picture named Why Can't You Behave.jpg

Why can't you behave?
Oh, why can't you behave?

After all the things you told me
And the promises that you gave,
Oh, why can't you behave?

Why can't you be good?
And do just as you should?
Won't you turn that new leaf over
So your baby can be your slave?
Oh, why can't you behave?

There's a farm I know near my old home town,
Where we two can go and try settlin' down.
There I'll care for you forever,
'Cause you're all in the world I crave.
Oh, why can't you behave?

Worth Its Salt

The red and white boxes of Diamond Crystal Kosher Salt disappeared from local grocery shelves a couple of years ago. It’s a personal preference, but I always liked the “pyramid-shaped” crystals better than the granular ones of Morton. Now Diamond Crystal is back! The container is different but the salt’s the same.

My Computer Ate My Brain!

Once again, I spent 4 hours of my own free time enslaved by a failure on my computer. The past few days, my UPS has announced “Unable to establish connection, UPS cannot retrieve data” whenever I rebooted. I got fed up with that, so yesterday I decided to troubleshoot. The UPS sends things like the level of charge and load on the battery yo the computer via USB. I connected to another USB port and, bingo, now it could make a connection. Ah, but when it came time to report, it said, “Maximum load exceeded, shutting down in thirty seconds.”

It really does speak those warnings; with the husky no-nonsense female voice you expect to be broadcast in airport terminals…”A Thermonuclear device has been discovered on this site. Please remain calm.”

After a few reboots, I learned to quickly find the Bulldog icon on my systray and shut down this service before it killed power to my system. Nothing graceful, just “poof,” power off. I traced the wires in the rat’s nest behind my computer. Some were disconnected at both ends, some at just one. One by one, the more I progressed, more devices began to fail on my computer. I did what any sensible technician would do on a holiday weekend.

I quit.

Disconnected the UPS and, one by one, got the other things working. I can live with that “Unable to establish connection” message for a few more days.

Happy 4th!
