Bob Edwards leaving NPR for XM Radio
NEW YORK (AP) — Bob Edwards, who recently was removed as host of National Public Radio's Morning Edition after nearly a quarter-century, is leaving the network to start a new morning show for distribution on satellite radio.
Edwards' new program will be distributed through the XM Satellite Radio system, a fee-based, commercial-free digital provider, NPR reported Wednesday.
I’ve been toying with the idea of getting XM for a few months.
Almost any drive through the hinterlands becomes interminable without good radio, especially when you descend into the pockets of preacher-dominated radio. Their tirades against Liebnizians and Hobosexuals are amusing few a few miles, but you quickly find the rational part of your brain gasping for air. Hit “seek.” Country & Western. Hit it again. A Jiffy Lube commercial. Again. An angry rant apparently directed at the libruls out there. Desperately, eyes off the road, finger attached to the “seek” button, an accelerating beat: Oldies, Urban, Preacher, C&W, Preacher, then back to the first one. Off with the radio. Dead silence.
Bob Edwards just might seal the deal.
