I can't belive the headline I just read at CNN: "Bush Urges Kerry To Condemn Attack Ads." Has the entire US Media started smoking crack since I left the country? Is it safe to come back?

While media attention focuses on the details of a single fire fight in Vietnam 35 years ago, casualties in Iraq for the past 8 days have been as high as during the most intense initial days of war. 25 US GIs have died - which, I suppose, makes them immune from future attacks on their valor. As a result of this increased rate, the projected date to reach 1,000 US Casualties in Iraq is now September 9.

Awesome lunch today, courtesy of our hosts. Teacups filled with sweet blossoms, hot water poured over the shoulder from a yard long spout, hardly any splashes. Sweet, fragrant tea. Ground seasoned pork in dumplings, cut like a jelly roll, served on a bed of turnip slices. A “vegetable” that resembled parsley, cooked with mushrooms in a milky liquid, eaten like soup or drained on a bowl of rice. “Meat,” slivers of unspecified animal part, served on a bed a miniature carrots, some stalky “vegetable, and another “root vegetable” that resembled depp-fried thread of leek. All indigenous to SW China. The crowning glory was a whole fish, baked in a spicy hot crunchy crust that is the best fish I’ve ever eaten. Burp!

Also went to Walmart after work. Same as US Walmart, only lower prices and better employee benefits.
