Unspoken Words To An Islamic Friend
I saw you suffer from collective blame for 9/11. I could see it on your face. I heard you scream, seemingly erratically, at the horrible images of Abu Ghraib. I looked you in the eye and saw myself, but as the product of another culture, and you looked right back into my eyes. I saw your anxiety last Wednesday and I shared it.
I want you to know that.
Do not despair, my brother. We have the ancient laws of nature on our side and they cannot be defied for long by any man. We cannot speak of these things, but, still we know them.
This too shall pass.

Iraqi commandos seize Fallujah hospital
(It’s probably safe to assume little resistance was met, even though the patients getting IVs might kave pulled the needles out their arms and put up a fight. Oh, BTW, 100 of the 400 "commandos" assigned to this mission defected as soon as it began.)

NPR Junkie
…and I’m an honest one, having made a pledge today. Without NPR and especially their overnight feed of the BBC, I would have lost my friggin’ mind when jingoism reigned on the entire US media conglomerate. It’s discomforting to know the facts when they’re out of step with mainstream fantasies, but there is still quiet comfort in knowing the truth. NPR provides that, without any hype.
I recently bought a shower radio so I don’t have to stop listening when I’m getting ready to go to work. I have radios in three rooms permanently tuned to WUNC so I can move about and not miss anything. $125 is a small price to pay for this luxury and I got a DVD from Back Porch Music, a great locally produced show that I’m listening to right now, as these words form into pixels on my monitor screen.

The Fun Begins…
Saudi religious scholars back ‘holy war’
Prediction: Oil production disrupted, Gasoline prices soar, US economy withers - but the good news is that it won't matter as long as we don't "believe" it.

Them’s Grits, Boy!
They’s pictured here in a very close-up view. They’s not instant grits. Them be yellow stone-ground grits.
