10/12

"You see, most blokes will be playing at 10. You’re on 10, all the way up, all the way up...Where can you go from there? Nowhere. What we do, is if we need that extra push over the cliff...Eleven. One louder." – Nigel Tufnel

10/12 is one more two ways better than 9/11! It’s Columbus Day! Yes, that’s right! The day in 1492 that Columbus made landfall in the Bahamas. Then, in 1609, the British invasion began in earnest when aspiring London tunesmith Thomas Ravenscroft, a mere lad in his teens, wrote Three Blind Mice, one the of the biggest hits of all time! And, in 1773, three years before the Decoration of Independence, the very first insane asylum opened its doors in Virginia. Oh there are some shortcomings - Like the bombing of the USS Cole in 2000, the Bali nightclub bombings of 2002, or the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998, but overall 10/12 has much more to offer than 9/11. The first Oktoberfest, Munich, 1805! The iron lung, Childrens’ Hospital, Boston, 1928! 1938: Filming starts on The Wizard of Oz! 1892: The Pledge of Allegiance is recited by US students for the very first time! 1960: Nikita Khrushchev pounds his shoe on a table during a General Assembley meeting of the United Nations! Forget 9/11, there’s a better day to remember the lessons of – and it costs a lot less! Call now and we’ll include beta versions of 11/13 and 12/14! But hurry! This offer is limited to the first 500 callers!

Judith Miller

It’s sequel season, so it’s no surprise that Bill Safire emerges the week after Land Of The Dead hit theaters to pen yet another defense of Judith Miller. The LATimes made the real point far better yesterday. This is not a case of press freedom, it is a case where the press was enlisted as a conspirator in a crime. Valerie Plame’s name was leaked (some suspect John Bolton) purely as an act of political retribution. Robert Novak has obviously squawked already or he’d be on his way to the slammer too. Keeping Miller out of jail requires one simple act, that the person who leaked the name come forward and confess rather than let others go to jail to cover up their crime. That’s all.
