Labor's Love Lost
The lockout of ILWU dockworkers on the West Coast indeed posed a threat to the nation's economy, but by invoking the Taft-Hartley Act - the daisy-cutter missile of anti-labor legislation in the United States - Bush may have energized traditionally Democratic voters around a core issue just ahead of the election. And, according to Forbes, he's got the Pacific Maritime Association to thank for it.

The Art of Terror
Reason Online's Charles Freund offers a cranky assessment of the statements of Damien Hirst (the terror attacks were "visually stunning") and New Zealander Gail Haffern ("The destruction of the World Trade Center was wonderful because it was a new idea."), claiming that they are, at base, not only tasteless but banal.
