Northwest Airlines Says "Eat This!"

Just when you thought air travel couldn't get any less comfortable or convenient, , Northwest Airlines is about to become the newest major airline to charge passengers for food on flights, according to recent reports

If the powers that be are determined to go this odious route, here's a dime's worth of free marketing advice: don't say you're charging for the meals - offer passengers a discount if they opt for "meal-free service." I can see the ad campaign now: How Much Can We Give You To Not Eat Airline Food? How About $20 Off the Price of a Round-Trip Ticket! No ill-will here - the airlines are doing you a favor and saving money. Passengers who want "full service" can still get it if they pay for it in advance, plus the airlines can sell food onboard in case people change their minds, so they look even more accommodating and flexible.

But no. Customer service is so far from the minds of the people who run America's airlines that something like this would never occur to them. Why ask when you can mandate? Why present yourself as flexible and affirmative when you can cry poor-mouth and demand your customers sacrifice conveniences to cover financial losses due to grievous mismanagement?

Celebrity Deadpool

Tonight is the debut of "The Surreal Life," in another of a seemingly endless series of shows this season to feature and/or make fun of ex-celebrities. If this keeps up, folks like MC Hammer, Gary Coleman and Corey Feldman will soon be more famous for not being famous anymore than they ever were famous for being famous when they were famous. Go figure.
