Polemicist Christopher Hitchens has lost many friends over his recent and increasingly vocal support for all things war and Bush, but he has not lost his mind. Grim Spector
Phil Spector, the record producer who made his reputation producing frothy girl-group pop in the early 60s (and, strangely, went on to work with the Ramones in the late 70s), was not known for being a nice guy. Nevertheless, one has to marvel at the sheer sleaze of the circumstances surrounding his alleged shooting of a woman he met earlier the same evening, after he got her back to his Alhambra, CA mansion. Celebrity crime cases don't usually interest me, but there's an element of the tragic in Spector, the one-time boy genius and notorious control freak, ending up as the lead in a bad remake of Sunset Blvd.
