The Mr. Bill Show
I admit it. I'm such a fool for Bill Clinton that I'll even put up with an hour of Larry King to get a fix. And the FPOTUS didn't disappoint when he appeared with the pathetic godfather of gab last night on CNN. He held forth in typical relaxed, extemporaneous style, making trenchant observations about all manner of foreign and domestic policy issues and exuding the charm, humanity and intelligence that so enraged and frustrated his enemies over the years (and would be unthinkable in the current occupant of the White House). Whenever Bill appears these days, it's impossible to leave behind the unspoken regret that the great test of leadership in our time came not to the most able and articulate figure of our time, but to his polar opposite. Can anyone fail to imagine how Bill Clinton, fired and empowered by the challenge of the terrorist attack, could have transformed our society? Or rallied the world to our support, rather than having it cringing in fear at what our testosterone-drunk leadership might do next? Seeing Clinton on TV now carries with it the fleeting hopefulness of buying a lottery ticket - not for the chance of winning, but for being able to dream about it, at least until the drawing.
