Tribe RSS Coverage.

More Tribe RSS coverage:

Really Simple Syndication. It's not just for blogs anymore.
At some point, everything on the Web with a need to be known will send out an RSS notification when something new goes up or something old changes.
  Witness what's happening at Tribe.

Tribe.net: RSS Output From Tribe's Message Boards

Marc Canter pinged me about a newly launched feature at Tribe.net: support for RSS output of Tribe's message boards.

This is an interesting fusion of bottom-up information from Tribe members and the RSS model for blog (and other sources) content aggregation. I have written about the power of this sort of group content aggregation in many venues. It's great to see that the social networking leaders are moving so quickly.[Get Real]

Social interaction bubbles up

Marc Canter points to a significant development in the evolution of social software. Tribe has introduced Real Simple Syndication (RSS) in its message boards, allowing groups of people to talk about issues and have the discussion organized for consumption with the context intact.

"Old school means separate data silos," Canter writes. "New school means integration, aggregation and appropriate levels of customization.  That's what digital lifestyle aggregators are all about."

That may sound esoteric, as many of the things Marc Canter is the first to say (people often end up repeating Mr. Canter years later), but it is significant, because RSS combined with other upcoming social networking technologies, like Friend of a Friend (FOAF), can be integrated into real-time services to enable immediate access to developing social events—think of parties or meetings or projects organizing right before your eyes. Once you get your head around that, the software one can develop becomes increasingly rich and the functions it provides more clearly of urgent value. [Red Herring]

I say call it RSS 3.0!.

RSS/Atom merge.

RSS is raging and Dave has outlined a plan to merge RSS and Atom. I think it would be a good thing for the web, for RSS, for Atom and for syndication technology in general. As developers of an RSS-based product we are going to support such a merge whatever it will take to make it work. Let's start by creating a new topic: RSS/Atom ";->". Is there any conenction between this olive branch and the notion of RSS 3.0?  I say - yes!  Let's do it - think of the end-users FIRST!
