Handhelds, Museums, and Onsite Interpretation

The following article points to the future use of handhelds as electronic tour guides, that do not require the cutting of trees, and can incorporate audio and multimedia.

Vietnam vets fund uses handhelds to guide Wall visitors. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund has received 20 iPad handhelds to help guide visitors to names on The Wall. The handhelds compress all relevant details on 58,229 casualties into a 19MB database. [Computerworld News]

The museum equivalent to this would allow people to view exhibits or natural features for that matter, with audio or text commentary, throw in GPS and you have a mobile, site veifified brochure.

New Low Cost Pocket PC PDAs

Looks like Dell will enter the PDA market with their own low cost Pocket PC PDA.
