CashBlog
The idea of this short article is to do some basic research to see if anyone out there is making any money with blogs. There are thousands of sort of the net's version of vanity press types blogs out there on any topic imaginable, but is anyone making any money with them?
One of the only mainstream press articles I found is an article by Jim McClellan of the Guardian, published Janurary 30, 2003.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/online/story/0,3605,884658,00.html
One of the blog successes McClellan references is Glen Reynolds "InstaPundit.Com, which he moved on to being listed on MSN at:
http://www.msnbc.com/news/856672.asp?cp1=1
which has the tagline of "Technology, Culture, Politics and the Law, and from that site you learn that Glen is a law professor at the University of Tennessee. However, not everyone can expect to get their own cable show.
So moving on to the stars tht McLellan identifies is Nick Denton who is responsible for Gizmodo, which offers all the latest gadget buzz at:
http://www.gizmodo.com/
which McLellan identifies Nick Denton's blog business model of using affiliate marking, advertising and syndication.
Information Week ran an article on blogs at:
http://www.informationweek.com/story/IWK20020905S0004
They pretty much poo pooed blogs with this statement:
" I sense that blogs will wind up in the same category as Internet chat rooms--a potentially interesting diversion if you don't have a whole lot to occupy your time but not a particularly reliable or efficient source of information. The reason is threefold: quality of data, time expended versus value received, and the reality of litigation. "
Business 2 BizBlog article:

the only thing noteworthy in this article was their reference to Traction Software's Team Page which is making inroads into the cybersecurity community, check out the following article:
http://www.computerworld.com/securitytopics/security/story/0,10801,81115,00.html
It would appear that Traction seems to be making inroads in bringing blogging like technology into areas where information is confidential and high-priced. Not usually where blogging software has been found to date.
