Night Train, a new kid on the literary block
It is always edifying to see people attempt something irregular and experience tangible success. A good friend of mine, Rod Siino, did just that. While going through the process of looking (and finding, I might add) a job, he started a literary magazine. A week ago I saw the result. It was not some kind of puny thing printed on a bubble jet, but rather a 256 page completely professional magazine with original fiction, printed on quality paper. It was quite an undertaking of which I’ve been hearing for months. I was still amazed to see the result – something you’d expect to find in a good college book store. The name of the magazine is “Night Train,” and the web site is www.nighttrainmagazine.com
Besides looking good, it’s a great venue for new writers. Rod is looking for original fiction, and actually pays to those whose submissions are accepted. I’ve read several pieces and they are really, really good. The subscription runs only $10 a year, so it’s not a huge dent on the wallet.
Every work of fiction is a life of sorts that we bring about, a simulacrum of creation. A venue for such activity may be viewed as an entire world. So, way to go, Rod!
