Cold
Any type of routine makes you weak. On the one hand, I am not sure one can survive without a routine. On the other hand, the moment you deviate from it, you expand so much more energy than usual that your body and mind end up drained. Routine is a protection against uncertainty in the same way that warm clothes are a protection against the cold. At the same time, people who don’t dress up too warmly are less prone to get sick. I am a total wimp in that respect – I am walking around with a bona fide Russian fur hat on my head. A good friend of mine who is originally from North finds the entire thing amusing and does not even put a coat on…
What truly scary is how quickly we adjust. I got out of the house yesterday to go to work. It was 10 degrees F, and it felt completely normal. Some days it seems that the winter will last for ever.
