Notes From Atlanta

I hope everybody else has as much fun and frustration setting up their blogs. I made the mistake of setting it up on one computer, and then transferring it over to another. Not fun!

It amazes me that these rednecks continue to fight over wearing the confederate emblem at public schools. Schools have banned gang colors in many parts of the country, and this seems to be similar. The emblem will cause trouble. They say it is about heritage, but if you talk to most of these people away from the press, there is racism involved.

Atlanta is a very diverse place. Inside the perimeter, or ITP, is very liberal. There is a very large gay community, a large African American community, a growing Hispanic population and many other nationalities represented. Outside the perimeter, or OTP, it gets different. The farther away from the perimeter, the more different it gets. Woodstock is northwest of Atlanta, about 20-25 OTP. There are some nice subdivisions and good people in that area. There are also numerous trailer parks, run down shacks and people driving old pick-up truck with gun racks. The men wear bill caps, and the women big hair.

Just so you know, I am a southerner and I have a pick-up truck, but no gun rack. My girlfriend is an ITP girl who does not have big hair. I have yet to attend a civil war reenactment. Didn’t we lose that war?

The center of the universe is Atlanta of course. It is the home of the bitter white guy with few prospects. Republicans, who do not know that they really do not make enough money a year to be Republicans, or at least be helped by their policies, proudly declare their uniformed opinions and dare you to disagree. Creaky old trucks with Bush/Chenney stickers on the window drive slowly down the left hand lane. It is the home of conspicuous consumption. There are so many people buying more expensive houses and cars than they can afford. It is the home of SUV driving, cell phone talking, make-up applying, soccer moms, also slowly driving down the left lane. It is the home of the sheriff that kills his elected successor. It is the home of my '94 Ford Ranger with 393,000 miles. I will need a counter to keep up with that. Oh yeah, it is the original motor. It is the home of Bennie and Hilda, wonder dogs, and the visiting Milton, wonder pug.

Give me a little time to set everything up. There will be more comments on Atlanta news, races and other stuff.

A lovely local story of neighborly love!
