A letter to my states elected officials:
This renegade diplomacy had a time in America, when the country was very young. Now, we cannot stand alone against the world. We do not have that kind of power or sway. I'm sure you've heard/thoght about this, but if 2001-09-11 didn't wake you up, here's some interesting figures that might: There are approximately 100,000,000 Islamic fundamentalists on the planet. That's roughly one-third the compliment of the United States. Now consider that roughly 30% (WebMD Article) of this country is too fat and lazy to move from their couches, much less stand up to armed terrorists. That drops our fighting force down to 210,000,000. Now consider that the average American no longer harbors a weapon in his/her house because we feel safe and are very complacent in the notion. I don't know the numbers, but for the sake of argument, lets say that's 50% of the population. I'm basing that number on the fact that I know at least 200 people well enough to know that only one of them owns a firearm. The folks I know are probably not the norm, so I'm allowing a generous benefit of doubt here. Anyhow, that takes the total down to approximately 105,000,000. Now out of those, how many do you suppose could really face another human being and kill him? I'm thinking again, unless faced with incredibly dire circumstance, maybe 50%. That drop us down to roughly half the number of Americans vs. Islamic radicals. I don't think I need to say it, but I will: Jihad is about killing for a God: kill the Infidel and you will be honored in Heaven. Superior firepower or not, they have a distinct advantage, what with Allah backing them and all. Now it strikes me that more people have given their lives in the name of God (in whatever form) than for any other cause over the history of man. Islamic radicals have no fear about killing themselves in an effort to promote their belief- we see it nearly everyday somewhere in the world. Let's face this fact. America, like Rome, will one day fall. It was the Huns who sacked Rome: Barbarians. Uneducated, under-developed people who used every means at their disposal to defeat their enemy. Let's assume now that Bush, who is seemingly impotent when it comes to be an actual president, does lead us into war. We go over and beat up on a bunch of impoverished Islamic people for the sake of lower oil prices and whatever other sticky motives Bush has. I must place myself in an Islam's shoes (sandals, whatever). Hypothetical: "I already hate America, I now hate America even more, perhaps I should encourage my brothers there to start bombing buses, churches, malls. I will write letters, and include $$, to them to tell them to go into impoverished inner-cities and teach the word of Mohammed." This does not appeal to me in any way. People tend to listen when God is involved and offering them a way out, or into Heaven. To me, this is incredibly frightening. Look at how easily swayed Americans are; moreso when they have nothing to lose and everything to gain, especially financial gain. Teach a bunch of already deviant kids that if you kill in the name of Allah, it's okay, then fund them with money and guns, and gee, well the math is not tough to figure out. This all sounds like I want to wipe out every follower of Islam on the planet. I'm not saying that. What I'm saying here is that we face much more important domestic issues that must be addressed before Jihad is brought to our fine land. Please, if you want to spend a billion dollars a day on something, do it here. Save Social Security; give a billion dollars over to alternative energy research for 100 days & see what happens; buy every American a hybrid car; raise public school teachers' salaries, then, when it makes sense to, hold them accountable for students who don't pass; cut welfare and promote education instead to help Americans achieve their potential; create a corporate police force independent of the government complete with its own system of checks and balances so it doesn't become too corrupt. High ideals, I know, but if we're going to waste the money anyhow, we might as well do it at home. This is just Common Sense. Remember Common Sense? It was one of the founding ideals of this nation: "Government, even in its best state, is a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one." Thomas Paine, Common Sense, 1776. Please strive to be only the former. If the government becomes too much of the latter, America will fail. With only small-minded notions America will fail. There is a balance. Paine knew it, Buddha knew it and the American Government must find it.
Thank you, TB.
I love how full of shit/ myself I am. None of this will matter in a couple hundred years, probably less. But it sure is fun to bitch and rant now. In case you're wondering just how full of shit I am, it starts just below my rib cage and stops at my anus. Well, sometimes it flows from that sacred portal; or up into my brain and back down through my arms into my fingers and leaves sticky stains on my keyboard.
Thanks for reading.
