Photo of baby birds in nest

Fledgling blogger watch

New Salon bloggers are like baby birds: They need TLC and worms if they're going to survive. If they even manage to make the top 100 Salon bloggers list, they can easily fall off of it like a baby bird falling out of its nest and splatting on the sidewalk. Nature is cruel.

With this in mind, each week I bring to your attention a fledgling Salon blogger whose blog I find noteworthy and urge you to check out his or her blog. He or she will be toward the bottom of the top 100 list or not on it at all.

This week's victim is Shane Hensinger of Fear This Factor, which is "Chock full 'o juicy Shane-bits!" (What exactly is a "juicy Shane-bit," Shane?)

Shane is on top of what's going on in Liberia. He relates an interesting anecdote about Jennifer Lopez and a bagel sans sesame seeds. And he is smart enough to know that neither Howard Dean nor Dennis Kucinich can beat George W. Bush in 2004. (He supports the unannounced Wesley Clark, who I think would make a great running mate for John Kerry.)

Go visit Shane right now. Let's see if we can get him into the top 100, where he belongs.

Sally Struthers

Won't you please help by visiting Fear This Factor?

Note: Last week's fledgling blog, Dr. Omed's Tent Show Revival, went from No. 100 to No. 93 (as of this writing) in one week. Woo hoo!

(If you would like to nominate your own or someone else's fledgling Salon blog for a future Fledgling blogger watch, you can e-mail the name and URL of the Salon blog to me by clicking on the envelope icon:  Click here to send an email to the editor of this weblog. )
