Democratic Presidential hopeful and U.S. Senator (D-Mass) John Kerry sits amid a backdrop of American flags before delivering a campaign speech at Veteran's Memorial Hall in the Bronx section of New York City, July 16, 2003. Kerry criticized what he called the Bush Administration's failures to meet the needs of homeland security and America's national security. REUTERS/Mike Segar

Looks pretty damned presidential, doesn't he?

Kerry is Salon-blogging Deanies' 2nd choice

On Sunday I posted the results of my poll of Salon bloggers regarding their choices of the announced candidates for the 2004 presidential election. Howard Dean was the bloggers' clear choice, with 40.3 percent, followed by John Kerry, with 19.4 percent.

I e-mailed the 29 Salon bloggers who had picked Dean this secondary poll:

Suppose (God forbid!) that Howard Dean dropped out of the 2004 presidential race. Which announced Democratic candidate would be your SECOND choice?

In alphabetical order:

___ John Edwards

___ Richard Gephardt

___ Bob Graham

___ John Kerry

___ Dennis Kucinich

___ Joseph Lieberman

___ Carol Moseley Braun

___ Al Sharpton

___ None of the above; I wouldn’t vote for any of these candidates.

Nineteen, or about two-thirds, of the 29 Salon-blogging Deanies participated in the secondary poll. Thirteen of the 19 Deanies -- 68.4 percent of them -- named Kerry as their second choice. Two of them, 10.5 percent, named Dennis Kucinich. John Edwards, Bob Graham and Al Sharpton each were named by one person, for 5.3 percent each.

One person, for 5.3 percent, stated she wouldn't vote for any of the eight candidates. Richard Gephardt, Joseph Lieberman and Carol Moseley Braun received no votes in the secondary poll (and also received no votes in the primary poll).

The poll confirms, I think, what I had believed: That should Dean's campaign tank, Kerry stands to inherit the lion's share of his followers.
