U.S. Democratic presidential candidates former Vermont Governor Howard Dean, (2nd from R) shakes hands with U.S. Senator John Kerry (D-MA), (2nd form L) as U.S. Senator John Edwards (D-NC), (R) walks away and Reverend Al Sharpton (L) looks on at the Democratic debate in Goffstown, New Hampshire January 22, 2004. It is the final debate between the candidates before New Hampshire's January 27 primary. REUTERS/Jim Bourg US Senator John Kerry (L) speaks as former Vermont governor Howard Dean (R) is reflected in a television monitor during the Democratic debate at Saint Anselm College in Manchester. Democrats running for the White House met for a final debate before next week's New Hampshire primary election, holding thier customary fire against each other and taking aim instead at President George W. Bush(AFP/David Hume)

Future president John Kerry towers over Howard Dean (and over all of the other candidates) as he shakes Dean's hand at the Democratic debate in New Hampshire yesterday, and Dean is reflected in a television monitor as Kerry speaks at the debate. (Pretty symbolic photos, eh?) Kerry leads Dean and the other candidates significantly in New Hampshire polls. The New Hampshire primary is four days away. (Reuters and AFP photos)

Kerry up; Dean and Clark down

Howard Dean and Wesley Clark and their supporters have gotta be feeling like John Kerry supporters felt just two weeks ago.

John Kerry is up to 30 percent in the latest Zogby New Hampshire poll (Jan. 20-22). Dean is down to 22 percent and Clark is down to 14 percent. John Edwards is at 7 percent and Joseph Lieberman is at 6 percent.

Only four more days until the New Hampshire primary and Kerry leads Dean by 8 percent. And, of course, there was that barbaric yawp. I think it's safe to officially predict John Kerry as the winner of New Hampshire.

In fact, I will be so bold as to officially predict John Kerry as the 2004 Democratic candidate for president. (I was just being provocative in the caption. I'll hold off at least another week before I officially predict Kerry as the next president of the United States.)
