Democratic presidential candidate US Senator John Kerry (D-MA) smiles as he celebrates his Super Tuesday victory at the Old Post Office Pavillion in Washington, DC. Kerry is projected to win most of the 10 states in Super Tuesday picking up almost 1,000 delegates toward the Democratic nomination(AFP/Stephen Jaffe)

Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry effectively won the Democratic presidential nomination today after having won 27 of the first 30 states' primaries and caucuses. During the race for the nomination, North Carolina Sen. John Edwards won one state, his native South Carolina, and retired Gen. Wesley Clark won one state, Oklahoma. Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean won his home state today even though he no longer has been campaigning. (AFP photo)

Who da man?

Just two or three months ago I didn't think I'd see this day, the day that John Kerry effectively takes the Democratic presidential nomination.

I was pretty much resigned to former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean being the Democratic presidential nominee and "President" Bush getting a second term. (No offense meant to the former and current members of the Dean camp -- I'm just being honest about my thoughts and feelings.)

John "Lazarus" Kerry's campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination was looking pretty dead. At the lowest point, the Sacramento-area Kerry MeetUps, which I've co-hosted since August, hit their all-time low of no more than five participants two months in a row.

At last month's MeetUp last week, we had between two and three times the largest amount of participants that we'd ever had before -- between 40 and 50. (Yeah, yeah, I know, that's nothing for a typical Dean MeetUp, but for a Kerry MeetUp in Sacramento, that's phenomenal.)

I've been at this for about eight months, after having settled upon Kerry in June.

I'm tired.

Trying to take your country back after a warmongering Republican regime's hostile takeover is not easy. It doesn't involve a whole lot of fun, and when occasions for celebration do arise -- such as today -- more work is just around the corner, so the celebration doesn't last for very long.

We of the Kerry camp are victorious, but now, another eight months of fighting begins.

Here are some fairly easy ways that you can join the fight:

  • You can attend monthly John Kerry MeetUps in your area. The Kerry MeetUps -- informal meetings of Kerry supporters -- happen at 7 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of every month; the next Kerry MeetUp is on March 25. Go here for more information and to sign up.
  • You can contribute what you can to the Kerry campaign by clicking here. (Unfortunately, it takes money -- lots and lots and lots of it -- to win a presidential election.)
  • You can do something as easy as displaying a bumper sticker. The visibility helps! To get up to two Kerry bumper stickers for free, click here. To purchase Kerry paraphernalia, including yard signs, bumper stickers, buttons, T-shirts and hats, go here.
  • If you haven't checked out Kerry's Web site yet, you oughta! Click here.
