From the e-mailbag

The split between left-wingers/progressives and right-wingers/regressives isn't just ideological, just a matter of opinion, and it isn't just a matter of simple, arbitrary personal preference, such as whether you prefer chocolate or vanilla.

Your typical right-winger/regressive/Republican is a terrified dumbfuck. (As Yoda says -- I paraphrase -- ignorance leads to fear; fear leads to hatred; hatred leads to violence; and violence leads to suffering. We are seeing this all too well in Iraq and elsewhere in the world. [Right-wingers/regressives/Republicans: Hold your hate e-mails that Yoda is a fictitious character, like our "president." I know that.])

Your typical right-winger/regressive/Republican wants to take us back to the Dark Ages, just like members of the Taliban do. (It is striking how much in common the "Christian" fundamentalists and the "Muslim" fundamentalists have in common. The main difference between them is that the "Christian" fundamentalists want to forcibly convert every last person on the planet to their sick and twisted brand of "Christianity" and the "Muslim" fundamentalists want to forcibly convert every last person on the planet to their sick and twisted brand of "Islam.")

Your typical left-winger/progressive/Democrat, in contrast to your typical right-winger/regressive/Republican, is fairly brave and intelligent. (John Kerry, for instance, is criticized for being too cerebral -- John Q. Sixpack's vocabulary is limited, you see -- and Kerry, unlike our chickenhawk "president," volunteered to go to Vietnam.)

To further illustrate my point, here is one of two e-mails that I received today via this weblog (this is an unedited copy and paste):

Check the Clinton files. If it wasn't for the republican you would be
speaking a forign langage.

DEMOCATES ARE WORSE they beat up on us AMERICAN>

Clinton and his wife are wanteing to distroy AMERICA.

Soon I do belive the great devide and concur will happen. Democrats VS
Republicans, waht a war i will be on our own soil.

Any way your off base on this one. Every war I have review there is
abuse for all reasons.

SO lets use this to get Bush out of office.

Democrats are the death of AMERICA.

Is English this person's second language? I certainly hope so. I received this tortured, convoluted e-mail today from a tortured, convoluted person who gave his name as "Vernon" -- he gave no last name and no return e-mail address, which is common with the e-mails that I receive from right-wingers, who are too pussy to give their real or full names and their e-mail addresses.

That aside, I have no idea what "the Clinton files" are -- are they anything like the X files? -- but I do recall that under President Clinton we had prosperity and relative peace (and under Clinton we weren't "speaking a forign langage," although English appears to be a foreign language for "Vernon" -- and I suppose that that's the evil Bill and Hillary's fault, too). Under President Clinton we had peace and prosperity despite the facts that Republicans never got over the fact that Clinton decisively beat King George I in the 1992 presidential election and that they did everything they could to destroy Clinton's presidency.

And I recall that every time a Bush is in the White House, we have a war in Iraq and the economy is in the toilet. Like father, like son, and we'll see that pattern come to a close in November when the son of a Bush also is turned out of office after one term.

The mistreatment of Iraqi detainees by American military personnel bursts the bubble of American moral superiority and exposes the BushCheneyCorp invasion and occupation of Iraq for what it is: A dirty oil, money, land and power grab by imperialist swine. There is no excusing the abuse of Iraqi detainees, people who already were powerless. (Further, since when did Iraqis become our enemy? Fifteen of the 19 9/11 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, with whom the Bush clan has been cozy for a long time, and not one of the hijackers was an Iraqi. Further, Iraq did nothing, absolutely nothing, to provoke the Bush regime's March 2003 invasion and subsequent occupation, so Americans have absolutely no business holding Iraqi prisoners in Iraq in the first place.)

And pointing out, as "Vernon" does, that atrocities have happened in the past certainly is no excuse for atrocities committed in the present.

The "war" between progressives/Democrats and regressives/Republicans to which "Vernon" refers already is underway, and, just as we progressives won the first Civil War, we will win this civil war, too. The dumbfucks will always lose -- because they're dumbfucks.

Here is the other e-mail that I received today, which also is a copy and paste:

Hello Robert,

I just discovered your blog and I want to commend you on your content
and your bravery.  Do you ever get concerned that the Secret Service is
just going to swoop down on you and put you in a cell in Guantanamo
Bay?

Anyway...glad you're out there.  And "out" there.  I'm with ya.

Looking forward to more,
W.M. [I'm using only the author's initials to protect his privacy]
New York City

Note that unlike "Vernon" (and unlike our "president"), W.M. can construct a coherent, correct English sentence. ("Vernon" couldn't spell "Guantanamo" if his life depended on it, and I'd love to watch the "president," who doesn't even have subject-verb agreement down, try.)

As "Vernon's" e-mail is typical of the hate e-mail that I receive from right-wingers/regressives/Republicans (illiterate and anonymous), W.M.'s e-mail is typical of the e-mail that I receive from fellow left-wingers/progressives/Democrats (literate and accountable).

To answer W.M.'s question, no, I am not afraid that agents of Big Brother are going to come get me. (I'm not saying that with the Bush regime in power that could never happen; I'm saying that I'm not afraid.) Unlike the evil cowards George W. Bush and Dick Cheney -- who both evaded serving in Vietnam and who thoughtlessly send our young men and women to die for their and their buds' financial interests in Iraq -- I am willing to die for my beliefs and for democracy and for freedom.

Death is preferable to the nightmarishly Orwellian world that the right-wingers/regressives/Republicans envision for us all.
