US President George W. Bush will make a speech seeking to reassure the world on his plans to bring stability and democracy to Iraq, still reeling with bloodshed more than a year after the US invasion toppled Saddam Hussein.(AFP/Paul J. Richards) President Bush addresses the audience at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pa., Monday, May, 24, 2004. Bush sought to reassure Americans Monday night that he has a plan to pull Iraq out of the violence and chaos that have marked the year since he declared an end to major combat. Look, Ma, no boo-boos! "President" Bush appears on national television tonight (right) to lie about the state of affairs in Iraq. The facial abrasions he sustained over the weekend (left) are nearly invisible in his TV performance. But that's what the Bush regime does best: Cover things up. 'President' Monkeyboy's state of Iraq speech

I'm listening to "President" Bush's nationally televised speech on Iraq as I type this sentence.

It's what I had expected it to be: Lies, platitudes, evasions of responsibility and more lies. (I especially like Bush's opening lie that Nicholas Berg's potentially politically damaging murder had absolutely nothing to do with Gulf War II. You gotta hand it to them: When the "president" and the members of his regime lie, which they do often, they don't half-ass it -- they lie big.)

To hear Bush tell it, his regime has made no mistakes in Iraq, when Gulf War II was a colossal mistake from the get-go. To hear Bush tell it, all of Iraq's problems are caused by all of those evil, freedom-and-democracy-hatin' Muslim terrorists who would have done their evil, freedom-and-democracy-hatin' deeds even if the United States had not illegally, immorally, imperialistically and unprovokedly invaded Iraq in March 2003 against the wishes of the United Nations and against world opinion.

(Absolutely no mention of Abu Ghraib prison so far. If the "president" doesn't mention it in his speech condemning those Muslim evildoers, did it ever happen?)

Oh, well. At least they did a pretty good job of concealing "President" Monkeyboy's boo-boos with makeup.

P.S. OK, the "president" just mentioned Abu Ghraib. He said -- or tried to say -- "Abu Ghraib" three times and pronounced it differently each time. The first time he said it, it was a gross mispronunciation. I think he had it closer to being right the third time he said it.

God, I can't wait until Nov. 2.
