Four views of the exterior of the FleetCenter in Boston, where the Democratic National Convention begins tomorrow. Coast Guard boats are patrolling the Boston Harbor in front of the FleetCenter and security at the convention is high, as the Associated Press photos above, which were taken recently, demonstrate. Below are recent AP photos of the preparation of the interior of the FleetCenter for the convention.

Crybabies cry over Democratic convention site
One of the things I hate most about my fellow Americans is that they're so fucking spoiled. Their sense of self-importance and entitlement is stunning. People in other nations die of starvation every day but I've watched my fellow Americans give detailed, specific instructions for preparation when ordering even fast food, as though they were fucking royalty.
Two news stories from today illustrate my point.
The first news item is that those who want to protest the Democratic National Convention, which starts tomorrow, are crying that they're not close enough to the action.
"Protesters likened the [official demonstration zone] to a concentration camp as they complained it is too far from the FleetCenter to get their messages across, even though the site is next to a parking lot where many delegates will pass on foot en route to the arena," reports the Associated Press. (The AP reports that the demonstration zone is "just over a block away" from the FleetCenter -- sounds pretty close to me.)
To the Bush-supporting AmeriNazi motherfuckers who don't like their location for protesting the convention, I say: Welcome to the concept of the "free-speech zone," which your imperious leader, "President" Dumbfuck, created after Sept. 11, 2001, using the terrorist attacks as an excuse to stifle opposition and to create the appearance that no one disagrees with him.
For years those who have wished to protest at appearances made by Bush and members of his regime have been unable to get anywhere near the events because of the Orwellianly named "free-speech zones," which usually are blocks away from the action. Now the AmeriNazis know what it feels like to be relegated to a "free-speech zone" and they're cyring, "Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!"
I'm not saying that it's intentional payback on the Democrats' part, although such payback is deserved. I don't know why the protesters have been relegated to the spot to which they've been relegated; I'm not privy to that decision-making. Security concerns have been given as a reason, and the AP notes that a judge agreed that security is a valid concern for not giving protesters everything they want. And while security concerns probably have been given as bogus reasons protesters can't get anywhere near one of the high-ranking members of the Bush regime who is making an appearance anywhere, in this case, security concerns seem genuine to me. After all, it's members of the Bush regime themselves who have tried to scare us all into believing that this year's Democratic and/or Republican convention could be struck by terrorists.
I know nothing about the FleetCenter in Boston, where the Democratic National Convention is being held, but I'm guessing that the Democrats are pressed for space and just can't accommodate everyone who wants to be accommodated, friend and foe alike.
The second news story of crybabies from today: Members of the corporately owned and controlled mass media are pissing and moaning that the bathroom facilities aren't adequate.
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
News flash, my spoiled fellow fucking Americans: The Democratic National Convention is primarily for those members of the Democratic Party who are attending it.
Perhaps it would be politically astute of the Democrats to pamper the members of the corporately owned and controlled mass media who are probably going to do a hack job on them anyway, like they did on Al Gore. But they're certainly not obligated to.
That the members of the mass media are whining that they want to be treated in the manner to which they've become accustomed demonstrates how fat and lazy they've become. They want to be spoon-fed, burped and pampered -- fuck getting the story. Maybe it's because Iraq hasn't had adequate bathroom facilities for the members of the corporately owned and controlled mass media that most of their coverage of the Bush regime's unprovoked, illegal, immoral and imperialistic invasion and occupation of Iraq has been more jingoistic cheerleading than it has been serious (objective, penetrating) reportage.
While I'm more sympathetic to the needs (and even the wants) of the protesters -- who include members of the Green Party* -- than I am to the wants of the members of the corporately owned and controlled mass media, let me repeat: The Democratic National Convention is primarily for those members of the Democratic Party who are attending it.
The vast majority of us who want to watch the convention cannot be there in person, but will have to watch it on television (what little of it that, ironically, the corporately owned and controlled mass media actually plan to show). That's life.
To those who aren't involved in the actual convention but feel entitled to be accommodated anyway, I say: If you reasonably can be accommodated, fine. But if you can't, oh fucking well. It's not your party.
*My heart is with the Green Party, with which I used to be registered, but the Green Party's sense of political reality is nonexistent. The Green Party had a reason to bitch and moan in 2000, but this presidential election is different. The Green Party needs to shut the fuck up right now or lose what little credibility it has left. If the Green Party fucks up this election, I will never return to it, not because I disagree with its ideals, but because I won't be a member of a party that is politically retarded. This presidential election is very different from 2000. As Arianna Huffington says in her great book Fanatics & Fools: The Game Plan for Winning Back America:
It's clear that the damage being done by the Republican fanatics...is such that we cannot afford the kind of protest votes that are geared toward long-term reform. I didn't have a problem with Ralph Nader's running in 2000. But that was then and this is now. Now we have seen George Bush's true colors. We have seen what has happened in Iraq.... We have seen the results of his regressive economic policies. We have seen who benefits and who loses in the world according to George Bush. It's folly to pretend that it doesn't make a difference whether Bush or his Democratic opponent is in the White House....
It's all well and good to dream about how wonderful it would be to remodel your home, but when your house is going up in flames, your first priority must be putting the fire out. Our collective priority for the near term must be to evict the Crawford squatter from the White House. Only then can we set about remodeling our democratic home. We simply can't do it in reverse.
Huffington endorses John Kerry for president, explaining:
...I've been more comfortable on the outside of the two-party system because only from the outside, I believe, is the true geography of our national crisis visible. [I agree, which is why although I have helped the Kerry campaign for more than a year now, I refuse to become a Democratic Party hack.] But from that perspective I have seen the crisis deepen alarmingly in recent times. We can't wait any longer for some sort of tectonic change. So while keeping the fires of reform burning, I'm sticking my nose in the Democratic tent, hoping that the Democratic nominee will offer the progressive transformation this country so desperately needs. [Ditto for me. Huffington accurately criticizes the Democratic Party as being "tired, intellectually bankrupt and complicit in the current crisis," but the best hope for us progressives, at least for the short term, is to reform and reinvigorate the existing Democratic Party rather than to invest our limited resources in a third party, be it the Green Party or any other party.]
