I killed Gilligan

This is creepy but true:

Yesterday at the California State Fair here in Sacramento, the first thing that I did was buy a beige Gilligan-style hat to prevent sunburn. I had never owned a Gilligan-style hat before because I had always found them dorky-looking, but I find that the older I get the less I care about what I look like, and the hats seem to give you better protection from the sun than do baseball caps.

I liked the beige Gilligan-style hat so much that the last thing I did at the fair yesterday before I left was buy another Gilligan-style hat, a white one. (The hats were only $8 a piece -- I couldn't pass them up.)

It was strange, then, to learn today that Bob Denver, who played Gilligan on "Gilligan's Island," died of cancer at age 70.

OK, so I probably didn't really kill Gilligan because Denver died before I bought the hat -- he died on Friday -- but his publicist for some reason did not announce his death until today and thus I did not find out about his death until today.

Anyway, the "coincidence" makes me wonder what would happen if I were to buy and wear a cowboy hat...

I hate cowboy hats, but it would be for a very good cause...
