Bush on domestic charm offensive

Pictures taken of George W. Bush today make it pretty clear what he's up to: Having the lowest approval ratings of his occupancy of the White House (below 40 percent in the most recent nationwide polls) -- due mostly to his woeful neglect of things here at home -- the "president" is now desperately trying to act like he really gives a shit about us commoners.

These pictures speak thousands of words:

Above: Bush visits an elementary school today in Mississippi. (I wonder if he read the littluns My Pet Goat.) Note that Bush seems to have made a special effort to touch the little brown kids, as he's not too popular with people of color right now, especially in the Gulf Coast states... The Associated Press notes that today's was Bush's eighth trip to the Gulf Coast region after Hurricane Katrina struck, wrecking hundreds of thousands of Americans' lives -- and his approval ratings.

Below: Here's Bush during his photo-op today with Habitat for Humanity in Louisiana:

See? Bush cares about ordinary Americans! He'll pound a few nails during the construction of your new home after your old one was destroyed because tax dollars that should have gone to your levees instead went to Uncle Dick's Halliburton via the bogus war in Vietraq! He'll even touch your off-white child!

So if you should get a phone call from a pollster, you approve of the job that Bush is doing, OK?

These nauseating, calculated photos of Bush remind me of 1988 Democratic presidential candidate Michael Dukakis' photo-op that the first George Bush's campaign used against Dukakis. Here is a still from one of King George I's vicious, fear-based television ads:

Ironic, because America can't afford King George II -- figuratively and literally. Under George W. Bush's "leadership" we now have a record federal budget deficit. The little schoolchildren that Gee Dubya likes to pat on the head to show us his heart already owe thousands of dollars.

Dukakis' photo-op in the tank was supposed to show that Dukakis wasn't weak on national defense.

"President" Bush's photo-ops today were supposed to show that he isn't weak on domestic issues.

When I see George W. Bush in that hard hat, holding a hammer, I see Michael Dukakis in that helmet in that tank.
