Smashing discovery: Scientists were surprised to discover this young female gorilla named Itebero using a rock as a hammer to crack open palm nuts. Itebero, photographed above earlier this month in her sanctuary in the Democratic Republic of Congo, is the first known gorilla to have mastered the use of a simple tool; previously, only humans and chimpanzees had been known to be able to use tools.

I was surprised to see that the primate below knows how to use a simple tool, and I'm still not convinced that these photos, also from earlier this month, aren't fakes:

Scientists are now investigating whether Itebero is intelligent enough to be president of the United States. Their hypothesis is that she is.
