Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who I always have thought is kind of strangely cute (independently of his ideology), has called for Israel to be "wiped off the map." Such rhetoric can only serve to prompt U.S. "President" George W. Bush to invade Iran in order to improve his approval ratings (which lately have been hovering around 40 percent) and to make Dick Cheney's Halliburton and other war-profiteering subsidiaries of BushCheneyCorp even richer with billions more of U.S. taxpayers' dollars that aren't going to things that we need, like health care, education, environmental protection and improvements in infrastructure -- such as levees.
This can't be good
Reports The Associated Press today:
Iran's hard-line president called for Israel to be "wiped off the map" and said a new wave of Palestinian attacks will destroy the Jewish state, state-run media reported [today].
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also denounced attempts to recognize Israel or normalize relations with it.
"There is no doubt that the new wave (of attacks) in Palestine will wipe off this stigma (Israel) from the face of the Islamic world," Ahmadinejad told students [today] during a Tehran conference called "The World without Zionism."
"Anybody who recognizes Israel will burn in the fire of the Islamic nation's fury, any (Islamic leader) who recognizes the Zionist regime means he is acknowledging the surrender and defeat of the Islamic world," Ahmadinejad said.
Ahmadinejad also repeated the words of the founder of Iran's Islamic revolution, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who called for the destruction of Israel.
"As the Imam said, Israel must be wiped off the map," said Ahmadinejad, who came to power in August.
Ahmadinejad referred to Israel's recent withdrawal from the Gaza Strip as a "trick," saying Gaza is part of the Palestinian territories and the withdrawal was meant to make Islamic states acknowledge Israel.
While I don't want to see any more Israelis or Palestinians or anyone else (except, perhaps, for some Repugnican traitors and war criminals) die, I don't believe that Israel is worth starting World War III. (Zionofascists will call me anti-Semitic, of course, but what I'm talking about is Mr. Spock's saying about the needs of the many outweighing the needs of the few.)
When "President" Bush had no good cause to invade Iraq for Dick Cheney's Halliburton and other oily war-profiteering subsidiaries of BushCheneyCorp, he just lied through his teeth about Iraq's possession of weapons of mass destruction and its subsequent threat to other nations and presented fabricated "evidence" against Iraq -- and then attacked Iraq anyway against the wishes of the United Nations Security Council and against world opinion.
As Iran is part of Bush's "axis of evil," the president of Iran doesn't need to be talking about wiping Israel off the map. Especially when Bush's approval ratings are the lowest that they've been during his occupancy of the White House and when Iran sits atop all of that oil.
Bloodthirsty Bush would lie about Iran's threat anyway in order to invade and occupy another sovereign Muslim nation, so the president of Iran probably shouldn't be giving Bush actual justifications to start World War III.
