
She did nothing for him: George Takei, who played Sulu in the original "Star Trek" television series (above) and in several "Star Trek" movies, has come out. In retrospect, Takei as Sulu did strike me as a little light in his space boots, but his character was so asexual that I never thought too much about it, although this image from one of the movies kind of gives it away:

Anyway, The Associated Press quotes Takei, 68, as saying that he and his significant other have been together for 18 years. "Takei, a Japanese-American who lived in a U.S. internment camp from age 4 to 8, said he grew up feeling ashamed of his ethnicity and sexuality. He likened prejudice against gays to racial segregation," reports the AP. "'It's against basic decency and what American values stand for,' he said." Yup.
Takei's coming out now has me wondering about Chekov:
