Because Christmas should be all about bigotry, animosity, intolerance, the majority shitting and pissing all over the rights of the minority, and shoving one's own personal religious beliefs down others' throats -- just like Jesus taught!
How the wingnuts ruined 'Merry Christmas'
Christmas will be over in a few hours, thank God.
I hope that the War on "Happy Holidays" (which is just as fabricated as was the Second Bush War on Iraq) is over -- that is, that the wingnuts will move on to some other insignificant battle and that we won't have to go through this shit next year.
The wingnuts already ruined the American flag for me. For me it has come to represent hateful, belligerent nationalism.
After the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, there was an epidemic of American flags. Patriotism, to me, means love of country, but the spate of American flags wasn't about love, but was about fear and its extension, hatred. The post-9/11 American flags were meant to send a message, and that message wasn't nearly so much "I love my country" as it was -- and still is -- "Watch out, sand nigger!"
Businesses owned by Middle Easterners here in Sacramento put up American flags immediately after 9/11, presumably to avoid vandalism or even violence in the post-9/11 hysteria, which I remember all too clearly. Margaret Cho, in her book I Have Chosen to Stay and Fight, similarly notes that a Lebanese restaurant in Southern California that she frequented put up not one, but two giant American flags right after 9/11 as if to say, "No, we're really Americans!"
When I see an American flag displayed on a vehicle -- usually, it's a truck -- I immediately have a lower opinion of the vehicle's owner. Not only is it a sign that the person feels that he or she (usually it's a he) must be a member of a group because he or she is too pussy to stand alone and is too stupid to think for him- or herself, but must participate in groupthink, but we all fucking know what country we live in and we don't need you to remind us of that, thank you very much, dipshit.
So when I see an American flag these days, I think of rednecks and wingnuts and jingoists and racists. The American flag to me now is an image of intimidation, a symbol meant to threaten others, not entirely unlike the Nazi flag. (Hey, don't blame me -- blame the fucking wingnuts for that.)
As you might guess, the Fourth of July is pretty much ruined for me.
Now, the wingnuts are working on ruining Christmas.
During the past month I have heard people emphatically say "Merry Christmas." They weren't saying "Merry Christmas" the way that people used to say it. They were saying, in essence, "Fuck those who don't celebrate Christmas!" or even "Fuck you if you don't celebrate Christmas!" What a lovely Christmastime message.
If "Merry Christmas" next year is said as a way to verbally extend one's middle finger to those who might be offended by "Merry Christmas," then the wingnuts will have succeeded in ruining "Merry Christmas" for me forever just as they ruined the American flag for me forever.
Funny how those who claim to be preserving America's heritage are the very same ones who are defiling it, who are making American traditions twisted and ugly.
Reality check: If Christmas doesn't seem quite the same to you, it's not because of the existence of other Americans who don't celebrate Christmas. It's because the money-grubbing weasels (a.k.a. capitalists) have ruined Christmas just as they ruin everything that their greedy fucking tentacles touch, which is pretty much everything. Profiteering sucks the life and spirit and light and love and warmth from everything that it touches.
Of course, the money-grubbing weasels want you to think that it's the Jews and the atheists and the Muslims and the agnostics and the liberals and anyone else who might not be thrilled with "Merry Christmas" who have ruined Christmas. They sure the hell don't want you to point the finger of blame at them, even though they are the ones who increasingly have been sucking the meaning out of Christmas every year for the past several years.
The plutocrats have the fascists at FOX and Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter and many, many others to spread lies and hatred that set the American people against each other so that the American people are too busy hating and fighting each other to notice that the plutocrats are killing all of us (even themselves, ironically). One minute it's gay men and lesbians who want equal rights who are the enemy. The next minute it's a mother whose son was killed in Iraq for George W. Bush's lies about Iraqi WMDs and Dick Cheney's Halliburton's war profits who's the enemy. The next minute "Happy Holidays" is the enemy. And the sand monkeys will be the enemy for a long time. (After Sept. 11, 2001, they replaced the Commies as public enemy No. 1.)
Never is the true enemy -- the plutocrats who are running this nation into the ground -- identified. The plutocrats would much rather that we poor and middle-class Americans turn against each other while they continue to laugh all the way to the bank.
And we -- especially the wingnuts, who are too stupid to know their true friends from their true enemies and who thus consistently stupidly vote against their own best interests -- oblige them.
Merry fucking Christmas.
