I hate America!

Oh, hell, we moonbats are accused of it anyway, so fuck it; I'll just say it: I hate America. And most Americans, which is why I hate America: because it's so full of Americans.

But I'll tell you, in excruciating detail, why -- something that those who love to proclaim "X hates America!" never want to discuss. They just want to stop at "X hates America!"

I hate America because of the Grand Canyon between the American myths and the American reality. The Ted Rall 'toon above is just one of many examples of this great divide, this colossal gap. The inscription on the Statue of Liberty calls her the "Mother of Exiles" and has her proclaiming:

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
         Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me;
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Today, the mostly white Repugnicans want to put duct tape on the mouth of the Mother of Exiles and want to stop the immigration of those with brown skin. The American tradition has been to welcome the "tired, [the] poor, ... the homeless, [the] tempest-tost," but now that they are already here, the mostly white Repugnicans want this tradition to end.

I hate America because the majority of Americans talk about how great democracy and the United States are yet don't know even basic information about their so-called democracy and the history of their own nation. I've found that most of my fellow Americans can't even name their two U.S. senators and their U.S. representative. If you really want to stump them, ask them how long the term of a U.S. senator is and how long the term of a U.S. representative is. (These are two of many questions that would-be American citizens must answer; funny how most American-born American citizens don't know the answers to the questions that would-be American citizens must know.)

I hate America because the majority of Americans call themselves "Christians" yet should you quote Jesus Christ to them, such as Jesus' not-very-Repugnican-friendly saying that "It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven," they'll stare at you blankly. They call themselves the followers of Christ but they don't even know the New Fucking Testament. So of course they don't even bother to try to actually follow it.

Every American wants to get rich -- that's the American dream -- yet every American also wants to go to heaven, so they call themselves "Christians," yet Jesus himself stated that it's pretty fucking hard for a rich person to get into heaven (as easy as it is for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle) and that you can't worship both God and money (yet another of Jesus' anti-rich sayings of which American "Christians" are utterly ignorant, as evidenced by how such false prophets as Jerry Falwell [may he roast in hell] and Pat Robertson can be filthy fucking rich yet claim to be men of Jesus -- and get away with it so fucking easily).

I hate America because the majority of Americans call themselves "Christians" and good people, yet they either supported the Bush regime or they just kept their mouths shut* in March 2003, when the Bush regime illegally, immorally, unprovokedly and imperialistically invaded the sovereign nation of Iraq in retaliation for 9/11 -- even though Iraq had had nothing to do with 9/11.

The majority of Americans -- or at least the vocal minority -- didn't even give a shit whether we were retaliating against the right nation. Sand monkeys had attacked us on 9/11, and by God, we were going to kill some sand monkeys in retaliation (even though that peaceniky, moonbatty Jesus explicitly taught that "an eye for an eye"** is bullshit and that you should always "turn the other cheek" and "love your enemy")!

Then came the wonderful images from Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, which Americans, in their mass psychosis, just pretty much ignored. The Nazi-like degradation, torture and even murder of Iraqis by Americans at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq didn't fit in with the Reason of the Week for the Vietraq War, the liberation of the Iraqis, so Americans just pretended that Abu Ghraib didn't even happen.

But back up.

How was Abu Ghraib even made possible?

Abu Ghraib was made possible because a majority of Americans, made fat and lazy by the prosperous Clinton years, didn't give a flying fuck when the five members (I can't call them "justices" because they know nothing of justice) of the U.S. Supreme Court who just coinky-dinkily had been appointed by Repugnican presidents crowned George W. Bush as president of the United States of America in late 2000. And this was after the Repugnican chief elections official in Florida, Katherine Harris -- who also just coinky-dinkily had sat on the Florida committee to elect George W. Bush (no conflict of interest there!) -- delivered the must-win state of Florida to George W. Bush. Oh, did I mention that at the time, the governor of Florida was George W. Bush's brother Jeb?

The stolen 2000 presidential election was the most serious blow to the American democracy during my lifetime. On President's Day 2001 I attended a "Not My President's Day" rally at the California State Capitol here in Sacramento to officially register my complaint with the universe that the American democracy had been grievously undermined. (I even made my own sign: "George Dubious Bush is not my president!" And he still isn't.) I hadn't voted for Democrat Al Gore -- I had voted for Green Party candidate Ralph Nader -- but I recognized that Al Gore had won the 2000 presidential election, and that in the United States of America, the candidate who wins the most votes in an election -- in this case, Gore -- is the one who is supposed to take office. That's called democracy

I was in the tiny minority in declaring that Bush wasn't/isn't my president. The vast majority of Americans acted as though nothing untoward had happened whatsoever. A close presidential election was stolen by the loser. It was like a children's fight over a toy, and the child who threw the bigger tantrum got the toy. What was the big deal?

We found out, I think, what the big deal was.

Of course, a huge chunk of Americans, most of them in the red states, all of them appallingly ignorant, still maintain that there's nothing wrong, even though the United States of America has been sinking almost as fast as the Titanic.

Indeed, we have the "Christian" Repugnican presidential hopefuls falling over each other to establish which one of them is the most pro-military, pro-torture, pro-Muslim-baby-killing, anti-woman, anti-anyone-who-isn't-white and anti-gay so that they can win the lion's share of the dumbfuck vote. Because George W. Bush, you see, just hasn't done enough damage; we need even more hell.

  •

I don't blog about them nearly enough, but most of our nation's problems are caused by those who are in most of the positions of power: the baby boomers, a.k.a. the Worst Generation.

Leave it to the baby boomers -- who have always been self-centered, spoiled pieces of shit who way overestimate their talents, their contributions and their worth because their parents, the so-called "Greatest Generation," told them 24-fucking-7 what wonderful people they are and spoiled them rotten -- to bring the American democracy to the brink of annihilation.

Yes, George W. Bush is the poster boy for the baby boomers. He isn't qualified to work at a McDonald's but he is "president" of the United States. Everywhere incompetent, corrupt, worthless baby boomers hold important, powerful positions that they intend to hold onto with death grips. Like it is with U.S. Supreme Court "justices," we're going to have to literally peel their cold, dead fingers from their desks, because the boomers are just too great to allow my generation (Generation X) to ever come into power.

Their parents stepped back and let them take the reins. But again, the boomers have been doing just too great a job to hand the reins over to the next generation -- mine -- and in order to justify their absolute refusal to step aside, to justify their unprecedented break with the American tradition of allowing the next generation to take the wheel, the boomers have slandered my generation as "slackers" and the like.

And it's not just George W. Bush. Look what the baby boomers have done to the Democratic Party after generations of Americans fought for the people via the Democratic Party for decades. The Democratic Party today is but a hollow shell of its former self.

Even when they are in the majority, the Democrats still are caving in to George W. Bush, who, rather than having his dictatorial ass licked, should be hanging from the gallows, a la Saddam Hussein, for his treason, his war crimes and his crimes against humanity.

  •

Before you protest regarding that last statement, did you know that George W. Bush has killed more Americans than did Osama bin Laden?

Yup: On Sept. 11, 2001, fewer than 3,000 Americans were unnecessarily slaughtered. George W. Bush's bold-faced fucking lies about his reasons for his illegal, immoral, unprovoked and imperialistic invasion and subsequent interminable occupation of Iraq have resulted in the unnecessary slaughter of more than 3,450 of our troops -- so far. Yet the Bushies claim that they support our troops.***

We don't know where Osama bin Laden is, but we sure the fuck know where George W. Bush is. So why don't we get him for his murder of more than 3,450 Americans?

We don't because we Americans, with our hypocrisy and our double standards and our ignorance, are assholes.

We Americans rely on history. We rest on our laurels. We don't think that we have to do any work. Our democracy is completed, we think.

No, democracy isn't like a house that is finished when it's finished being constructed. Democracy is like a houseplant, which has to be tended to on an ongoing basis -- or it will die.

Once again, we have the baby boomers to thank for the mindset that the American democracy is done. The baby boomers worshipped their parents, calling them "the Greatest Generation" -- which is bullshit, because if the members of the "Greatest Generation" were so fucking great, how in the hell did they produce the Worst Generation of Americans?

The reason that the baby boomers have worshipped their parents, the reason that the boomers hearken back to the days of their parents, isn't out of love for their parents, but is out of the boomers' selfishness and laziness, out of the fact that the boomers never had any fucking intention to contribute anything meaningful and worthwhile to the United States themselves. No, they'd just continue to sponge off their parents forever, the Peter Pan Generation.

Again, George W. Bush is the poster boy for this, even comparing his bullshit "war on terror" to World War II, the last just war that the United States fought (with the exception of the United States' nuking of Japan, which was unnecessary overkill, to put it mildly, that started the global nuclear arms race). All that "President" Bush talks about is what others have accomplished in the past, occasionally lamely comparing one of his many fuck-ups to some other president's actual success. What has this motherfucking "president" accomplished? (Oh, yeah: "Mission accomplished" in May 2003.)

If I hadn't been lied to growing up about how great the United States of America is, I probably wouldn't feel the way I do. But what I've been told the United States of America is and Americans are and what I have observed America and Americans to be have been two different things.

I grew up being told that the United States of America is a "Christian" nation. Oh, really? Who would Jesus bomb? Who would Jesus torture? After Jesus' teachings -- which we've had around only for, oh, about 2,000 years -- why do I see so many homeless people on the streets? Why is social Darwinism America's predominant religion, despite the teachings of Jesus Christ to care for one another?

We're not a fucking Christian nation. Far fucking from it. We worship the golden calf -- all we care about is our SUVs and our cell phones. That's all that we are -- savages with cell phones who will run you down in our SUVs should you dare to get in our way.

We worship capitalism, the central idea of which is that to steal from others is good. You pay your workers as little as you possibly can -- including denying them benefits, if you can get away with it -- and you charge your customers as much as you possibly can, and you become rich, rich, rich! Yay!

Fuck the fact that because you screw people coming and going, pretty soon no one will be able to afford your overpriced goods and services. Right now, you're rich!

"Christians." Bullshit.

"United we stand" -- more bullshit. Now, I'm still not sure exactly what "united we stand" was meant to convey: was it meant as a reminder to us Americans that united we stand and divided we fall? Or was it, as I surmise it was, a claim -- a thinly veiled threat, actually -- that we Americans were united in the aftermath of Sept. 11, 2001? A warning to our enemies: "Don't fuck with us -- because we're united!"?

Maybe we were "united" momentarily in fear, but today certainly Americans aren't united. In the United States of America it's every man and woman for him- or herself. I'm fucking lucky if someone doesn't run me down in a crosswalk in broad daylight because I had the audacity to exercise my legal rights as a pedestrian, and because my tax dollars go to Dick Cheney's Halliburton and the other war-profiteering subsidiaries of BushCheneyCorp -- to human greed instead of to human need -- I can't walk around for any length of time in my neighborhood without being panhandled, and during the long Bush II years my neighborhood in Sacramento, where I moved in 2001, has been getting worse every fucking year.

Americans stopped caring about each other long ago. And of course capitalism, with its centerpiece of social Darwinism, encourages this behavior.

We Americans will talk about how "united" we are when the Really Big Shit hits the Really Big Fan, as it did on Sept. 11, 2001 -- but otherwise it's business as usual, and "business" is about fucking each other over for our own personal profits.

  •

Americans, probably more than any other group of people on the planet, want to be regarded as wonderful fucking people, as God's fucking chosen, but they want to eat their cake, too: they want to be able to do anything that they fucking want -- such as to just allow an evil cabal of people steal a presidential election, steal billions and billions from the U.S. treasury via a bogus war that thus far has benefited only the war profiteers such as Dick Cheney's Halliburton, ruin the global reputation of the United States with such things at the Abu Ghraib House of Horrors and the Guantanamo Bay Concentration Camp (not to mention the at least tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians whom the U.S. military has slaughtered since March 2003 [the ultimate "liberation," I suppose]), shit and piss all over the U.S. Constitution, and bring the United States of America the closest that it has ever come to its demise (did I mention global warming? It's not enough for the Repugnicans to destroy the United States -- they want to destroy the entire fucking planet) -- yet Americans still want to be called great fucking people, God's fucking chosen.

This problem has been historical: despite the fact that the United States was built upon land stolen from the natives, who were decimated by their white conquerors, and was built largely with the labor of people abducted from Africa and enslaved and their enslaved descendants, Americans still proclaim that the United States of America is God's chosen nation and that the United States is what it is today not because anyone's land was stolen from them or because anyone was enslaved, but because God wuvs us because we are so inherently great.

  •

Today is Memorial Day, one of the national holidays on which we celebrate militarism, the establishment of what we call "democracy" at gunpoint.

Today we might remember those who were shit and pissed upon so that the United States of America could be what it is today: the natives whose land was stolen from them, the black slaves who freedom was stolen from them, the Latinos who long have been doing the dirty work that whites don't want to do yet of whom whites who call themselves Repugnicans say they want to kick out of the country, never mind the fact that if this ever actually happened there would be no one left to do all of the dirty work.

Today we might remember those who still are being shit and pissed upon today -- including the Iraqi people, who were promised "liberation" but who, more than four fucking years after "mission accomplished," still have nothing but continuous death and destruction under U.S. occupation -- so that "God's chosen nation" can continue to consume. Today, instead of patting ourselves on the back at how efficient we Americans have been in using our military to slaughter hundreds of thousands of innocent people in the names of "God" and "Jesus" and "freedom" and democracy," we might remember the thousands upon thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians we promised we were going to "liberate" but slaughtered instead.

Today, instead of patting ourselves on the back at how wonderful our "democracy" is, we might reflect upon how the world's worst mass murderer, George W. Bush -- murderer of not only of thousands upon thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians but of more than 3,450 of our own troops, most of them young people who were cut down in their prime not protecting their nation from any fucking threat to the United States from Iraq but who died for the war profiteering of Cheney's Halliburton and the other war-profiteering subsidiaries of BushCheneyCorp -- runs free.

Today, instead of perpetuating the myths and the lies about ourselves, we might reflect upon how our actions match our stated ideals.

Today, if we want to continue to call ourselves "Christians," we might actually fucking familiarize ourselves with what Jesus Christ actually taught, which included loving our enemies, helping each other out and not just allowing any of us to struggle with life's basic physical necessities, not to worship material things and not to be fucking hypocrites.

Today, if we want to continue to call ourselves lovers of democracy and freedom and the United States of America, we might actually familiarize ourselves with what democracy and freedom and the United States of America are supposed to be and recognize how fucking far we have strayed. (Hint: Freedom really isn't about the freedom to be able to talk on your cell phone while you recklessly drive your SUV on the way to the mega-mall.)

We can start by backtracking to late 2000, when it all started to go seriously, seriously wrong, when the American dream became the long American nightmare.

Today, we can try to kid ourselves, but we have nothing to celebrate.

Tomorrow, we might. An ember of what the United States of America used to be, I think -- I hope -- still glows.

At this late hour, it still -- I think and I hope -- is possible for me to be able to utter, before I die, "I love the United States of America and I love Americans."

P.S. to the incredibly predictable "love it or leave it" crowd: Fuck you. Don't bother to leave a dumbfuck comment because I'll probably delete it. You're the problem, and if all of us sane Americans did leave, you'd find yourselves up shit creek without a paddle in no time, you dumbfucks. I have a much better idea: You leave, you fucking morons who claim to be "Christians" and "patriots" yet don't know even the fucking basics of the teachings of Jesus Christ, American history and American civics.

*What's that quote that Repugnican president wannabe Mitt Romney likes to throw around? Something about great evil being committed when good people do nothing to stop it -- even though the pro-torture Mitt Romney is part of that evil?

**Fuck, if you must follow "an eye for an eye" -- although you can't call yourself a follower of Christ if you do -- can you at least go after the eye of the right person? The great majority of the 9/11 hijackers -- 15 of the 19 of them -- were Saudis. Why didn't we unleash "shock and awe" on Saudi Arabia if we were so hell-bent on revenge for 9/11? (Oh, yeah -- because the Bush crime family is friends with the Saudi royal family, the dictators of Saudi Arabia.)

***This is yet another reason why I hate America: because in the United States of America, up is down and down is up. When you are perfectly OK with our troops continuing to die and to be maimed for the treasonous Bush regime's many lies, you support our troops, but when you don't want our troops to continue to die and to be maimed for the treasonous Bush regime's many lies, you don't support our troops. I hate Americans for making such insane "thinking" even possible.
