Early and absentee voting: SCAM

The institution of widespread absentee voting was a good idea. It enabled those who absolutely couldn't make it to a voting booth -- because they'd be out of the country on Election Day or because they are homebound or the like -- to be able to vote.

But absentee voting and early voting are now being abused. Now both of the two major political parties encourage individuals to vote early -- not because this is good for the individual, but because this is good for the parties.

Think about it: The parties want you to cast your vote now, just in case there is some October surprise. Sarah Pentecostal Palin is found guilty of wrongdoing by the Alaska Legislature? Oops -- too late! You've already cast your ballot and it's too late to change your vote now!

That's the Repugnican Party's tactic. In this e-mail sent out today by the McInsane-Pentecostal Palin campaign, with the subject line of "Get Your Absentee Ballot," the Repugnicans act as though they care about you, the individual:

Friends,

The polls are tightening across the nation, and one thing is clear: this year's presidential election will be one of the closest in history. We know that John McCain and Sarah Palin will change Washington, but before they reform our nation's capital, you have to send them there first.

Now more than ever, your vote is critical. And there's no better way to vote than by voting early, or with an absentee ballot. Voting early, or with an absentee ballot, is the best way to avoid the long line on Election Day and get your vote counted. Many states allow you to vote early by requesting an absentee ballot through the mail. Please visit www.JohnMcCain.com/AB for more details on early voting and absentee ballot requests in your state.

Your support is extremely important to electing John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin in November, and your vote will matter. I'm encouraging you to visit our website and either register to vote or sign up for early voting or an absentee ballot. Your vote will make all the difference in November.

Thanks for your support and for your vote!

Rick Davis
Campaign Manager

P.S. Please forward this email to your friends, family, neighbors and colleagues and encourage them to either register to vote or sign up for early voting or absentee voting. Remember, this will be a close election and the work we do now will make all the difference in electing John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin. Thank you!

If you truly cannot vote on Election Day for some reason, then go ahead and vote absentee or vote early. But wait as long as possible to do so, because you never know what news might break after you already have cast your vote -- news that might have made you vote otherwise.

Don't be duped by either party into thinking that what is best for the party is best for you.

Keep in mind that absentee and early voting never were meant to be a tool by which the parties can lock you into making a vote that you'll later regret.

And don't be fucking lazy -- if you can get to a voting booth on Election Day, then do so.

Hear that sound?

That's the sound of the American Empire crumbling about us, as sure as great big chunks of the North Pole are breaking off and melting into the ocean.

Hurricanes. Wall Street meltdown. Sarah Speaks in Tongues Palin might be president one day fairly soon, that's how wise Americans are.

Can the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse be far behind?
