Most of the time when I open up my Radio Userland software I just start typing and that's what ends up on my blog. It's pretty nice, just sitting down with an open mind and no particular goal and writing. Quite different than having to write a year end report or a business letter or some type of writing assignment. Much different than the typical informational sheet that I type out for my middle school drama students. But it is quite similar to writing sermons for me. When I am asked to deliver the message for a worship service I try to empty out all my human stuff and just let the Spirit flow through me, so that I'm sure it isn't me preaching, it is me delivering a message. Because I don't have to do it every week, I think it is easier for me. I'm a "certified Lay Speaker" for the United Methodist Church, and though it isn't a necessity, I do preach about 4 times a year. I wonder sometimes if it would come as easy to me if preaching were a weekly task in my ministry.
As for this blog, lately I've been waking up each morning itching to write a story and it is a story that needs to be told. A story about friendship and AIDS and children and secrets and I've never had so much trouble writing anything. I've carried the story around for 6 years or so now and it's about to burst out of me if I don't give it some time and let it come to life.
Soon.
