| Rayne Today Searching for dharma, in spite of the weather... BookReports: The BookReporter asks “Which book or author has made you laugh out loud the most?” Who the heck is Janet Evanovich? I can’t stay on long enough to find out, have to log off and tuck in the kids. Nuts. Apparently a lot of the survey participants think she’s a hoot-out-loud writer. Personally, off the top of my head, it’s David Sedaris and Oscar Wilde. They’re blow-milk-through-your-nose funny! There’s many more, but I can’t afford the time to list them! Carl Hiassen got a lot of votes, too. Really? What do you think? Powell – alone in the crowd Very telling; the UN meeting is about to start. Colin Powell, normally surrounded by backpatters and well-wishers, is standing alone. No one in his personal space, while nearly everyone else is engaged in conversations with others. He looks a little lost. Kofi Annan does come up and chat with him, makes this a little less uncomfortable to watch. It breaks the ice. Powell’s talking with 3 women now; they reach out to shake his hand, swarm him. The men closest to Powell actually have their backs to him as they talk to others. This is going to be ugly. I’m really torn, I respect this guy so much; he’s probably the only real straight arrow in the administration. And yet he’s too much the good soldier. I don’t know whether, as Beeman suggested yesterday, Powell shouldn’t resign to salvage his integrity. But if he were to leave, there’d be no hope at all for this Administration. It's a double-edged sword, cutting both ways. <sigh> Dubya’s conference last night No, I didn’t actually watch it. My spouse watched his programming from the bedroom; I read while tolerating the kids’ Disney Channel in the den. Unfortunately, I had to go into the bedroom for a moment and was unavoidably exposed to the blathering on television at what must have been the worst moment. For me, at least. Agh, the man said he “relied on his faith”. Gawddammit all, it’s a jihad and nobody told us. That changes everything now, doesn’t it? Well?
