| Rayne Today Searching for dharma, in spite of the weather...
You Googled Me?: Mundane and beyond Lots of weird searches found me today, from the incredibly mundane to the highly concerning. Usually they run towards the mundane, from teenagers seeking information on disrobing a particular video game character to those folks seeking information on a bread recipe I posted some time ago. Today’s lot were a little broader in reach… Mundane examples: “carbohydrates chicken livers fried” I’d be more worried about the cholesterol, dear Atkins dieter! If they’re batter-dipped, they’re loaded with carbos; if they’re just dusted with cornstarch or flour, the carbo content will be miniscule. Just in case you're obsessive about the carbos, check out this recipe. “Olives fat content” They’re loaded with the “good” fat, just eat them! But their fat and caloric content does depend on size. . Normal oddities: “plastic knickers and aprons” This could be an incredibly benign search for safety or protective gear (if it is, dear seeker, please try adding those key words to your search). Perhaps. If not, I suggest the seeker also add the word “fantasy”, "vinyl" or “fetish” for better search results. Better luck next Google! “green pepper germination time” Haven’t covered that one yet. Try www.garden.com, home of Burpee seeds, see if they tell you in descriptions of seeds to purchase. I believe it’s 10 to 14 days, but I can’t recall for certain. It’ll depend on soil temperatures, too; peppers don’t like it cold. You could also call your local county extension office, check to see if they have a Master Gardener you could contact for assistance. Highly concerning: “My ex-husband continually harasses me” This search bothered me a LOT. Girlfriend: go to the library and look for resources related to divorce and personal protection orders as well as your state’s laws on stalking and harassment. Don’t be afraid to ask a librarian for assistance; they’ve heard far stranger stuff from people who need far less help than you. Start keeping written records about nature and frequency of harassment, including dates and times. Depending on how serious this is, do not go anywhere by yourself without letting someone else – a friend, another family member, anyone else special to you – know where you are going and how long you will be. Change your habits; this means varying your route home from work frequently. You can also find a wealth of links about harassment and stalking here. (In case you need to write down the link: http://www.vaonline.org/doc_stalking.html) I know what I’m talking about here; been through this before with friends and family members. Pay heed, I beg you.
Will this blog survive? I had my first doubts today that I can keep up this blog. Spring finally arrived, and I’m being drawn to the great outdoors. Thoughts stray to swinging golf clubs once again. Pruning my roses and raspberries. Making trips to the greenhouse for vegetables plants. Dinners outside on the lawn, the smell of grilling chicken wafting on warm breezes. What about you, fellow blogger, how will you resist the call of the outdoors? Or will we all be blogging after sunset? Now go outside and play, think about it, tell me later before bedtime.
Watch out, Tiger! This girl is HOT!!! Smoking!!! Can you imagine a 13-year-old hitting a golf ball 300 yards? My dad got to see Michelle Wie play last year while he was in Somehow I just don’t see my girl ever hitting like Michelle Wie; she doesn’t have the same competitive drive to smack the ball. But that’s okay, I’m glad somebody’s daughter does have that drive. Can’t wait to see what she does with a couple more years of competitive play under her belt! And I do so hope that her burning desire to play in The Master’s is fulfilled some day. A woman who can hit 300+ yards consistently won't be holding up any males on the course!
Just a reminder: it’s not all on the surface The entirety of the earth isn’t just about the stuff that happens between humans on the surface of the earth, not about the stuff pushed through the airwaves from one point on the surface to another point on the same surface. The earth is something more than that. And we are when we remember this fact, else we are something far less. Take a jaunt to National Geographic’s site dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the first ascent of Good. That’s really what we look like from space. Insignificant nothings on a blue speck in space. What’s really important here is ALL the stuff that happens between the core and the outmost atmosphere, that differentiates this little blue speck from the rest of the vast galactic ocean. The stuff on the surface that influences a single species is really a fraction of that differentiation. A single stray asteroid, and the speck is gone without so much as a ripple in the cosmic pond. What would we need to do to be more than a speck or a ripple? Would it take more than making war on one another here on the surface to achieve it?
Perhaps it will take a monumental change in mindset, where we look out and up instead of across and down?
WARNING: Slow Blogging today It’s a “dog-ate-my-homework” kind of morning. I slept in too late, the kids did too; we’re still padding about in pajamas and it’s Add the effects of a perfect spring morning – shining sun, greening grass, budding trees and flowers – and you’ve got blogging in slow-motion. There’s a massive guilt-trip hanging about as well; there’s a fish tank needing attention and a ton of laundry piling up, wanting for washing and hanging outside in the fresh air. Must get this guilt monkey off my back… I’ll check back later, maybe after lunch. Maybe.
