Project update: The new house A new wrinkle has developed. During the course of a long heart-to-heart, head-butt to head-butt, hand-to-hand last night, my husband attempted to persuade me to be the general contractor and handle the entire construction project myself, rather than deal with any of the local general contractors. Omigod. I can't imagine working for this guy, what with all the data he needs to be comfortable with any purchasing decision or financial commitment! I don't think he realizes that's part of the challenge; he thinks I'm doubting my own abilities having expressed reluctance to take this on. Sure, I can manage a global team of IT people in an enterprise with which I'm entirely familiar...but draw my own plans, hire my own architect and sub-contractors, make sure everyone performs their piece to specification within building code and on time, under budget, AND provide my husband a ton of data on status? Hell no! was my initial response. Any of you folks been your own GC? Persuade me one way or the other! 11:23:36 AM
