WARNING: POSSIBLE FAUX HITS DURING BLOG REORGANIZATION I’m still trying to shuffle, reorganize and compress files accumulated during the last 11 months of blogging. Please bear with me in the mean time; it may look like I’m getting a lot of traffic, but it’s not because of any stellar content being posted! I’m going to guess that so-called regular posting will be another 24 hours or so away, thanks for your patience. On the other hand, the occasional irreverent wiseass remark may still be posted as “irregular” content, if only in the leanest of text to satisfy this resident blogoholic's need for purgation via blogging.
End of my allocation met… Doggone it all, I’m at the limit of my storage; I’ve used up all my space. That explains why I couldn’t post consistently for the last 3 days! Would have been nice if Radio software 1) provided an alert within 10% of end of storage; 2) provided an actual error message when a post fails for lack of storage; 3) provided a de minimus amount of temporary storage – say, an additional 5% -- until clean up of old files could be performed. [Yes, I know, I should have been watching my Events and my Cloud Status more closely – but really, who does this religiously while trying to generate and post content three times a day?] Now, how does one clean up old files? I’ve gone through and reduced the resolution on every photo to 72 dpi from 96 dpi, reduced the sizes of photos, deleted duplicates or unused-but-posted photos, changed all my categories other than my largest categories so that they don’t render in HTML. I’ve freed up only 1 to 2% doing this, and it’s taken me three (count ‘em, 3) fricking long hours to achieve this. What do I do next? Do I delete old posts? What’s the fastest way to do that? Is there any compression I should be doing? I’m desperate, I’m open to any suggestions. This may be a great help to other Salon bloggers who’ll be coming up on the limits of their storage shortly as well.
