WARNING: SLOW BLOGGING

I’m trying to get ready for my dad’s 70th birthday party this afternoon.  Thankfully my sister dreamed this up and is hosting at her house (although in some respects we’re all a little annoyed about it).  I don’t have to get the house together; I just have to get both of the kids and myself ready in the requisite “aloha attire”.

Yeah, Sis decided to have a Hawaiian theme party for our “local boy”.  Would have been a better theme in summer rather than autumn; nothing quite like a chilly breeze blowing up the backside of one’s muumuu or aloha shirt.  The off-putting part is that my folks had to rearrange their schedules and drive seven hours to attend this shindig.  It could have been held at the end of October when my folks were scheduled to be here anythow.  My brothers and their families drove five hours to be here, but they would have anyhow, whether now or the end of the month.  They might even drive here again at the end of the month before my folks make their migration to warmer climes for the winter.

Anyhow, I’ll be too busy to blog for the rest of the day.  You’ll have to find some other blog to amuse you today (as if there weren’t any others out there).

Fill me in, let me know if you see anything I should check out when I get back.  I’ll be sure to have a mai tai for you while I’m in the blog-free zone.

DharmaSurfing:  Date for Denouement

At 5:30 last night the phone rings.  It’s the HR person again, telling me they’ve settled firmly on Thursday for the interview – would I care to pick a time?

She begins to list slots available; I cut her off at the first one. 10:00 am on Thursday is fine.  I have enough time to get my kids to school, get gussied up and drive 50 minutes with enough time to find the office and sit patiently.   If I take a later appointment, I’ll end up pushing my return envelope, possibly being late to pick up the kids after school.  There’s construction on the highway between here and there as well, requiring additional buffer time.

The HR person tells me the VP with whom I’m interviewing is coming in from Canada.  Geez.  It’s not a long drive, but I guess you’ve got to be pretty serious to mess with coming into the Armpit-of-the-Earth from Canada to interview me.

Granted, I’m probably not the only candidate, but really, Canada?

For a project coordinator’s position?

Hmmm.

A picture named Tooth092703.jpgThe Tooth Fairy Cometh

Any time now, this wiggly tooth in the bottom front will pop out.

We've already had tears this morning over its impending fate; will it hurt when it comes out?

The oh-so-wise older sister assures him it won't, not a bit.

Liar.

Okay, maybe it'll only hurt a little bit; there might be a little bit of bleeding.

But it will hurt me a lot.  This is, after all, the beginning of the end of my baby's milk teeth.
