Project: Global Movie

Vertical Ray of the Sun is lush; one can almost smell the humidity in the air, feel the cloying stickiness of Hanoi, sense hearts beating beneath the clinging cotton chemises.

The characters are tantalizing – we see just enough of them to be teased and not enough of them to be satisfied with the explanations given about their lives.

Neva, Harald and Phil joined me today to view this; I know I’m going to have to watch this again tonight even though there were four pairs of eyes watching and sharing this movie.  We were left with more questions than answers at the end of the movie; not in a bad sense, though.  We were engaged with the characters enough to want to know more about them, want to learn more about the circuitous path that led to the denouement.

Was there really denouement?

Perhaps that is the point of this movie: in life and even in death there is no real denouement?

In my opinion, a great movie – it captured me, makes me want to watch it again.

Thanks, gang, for joining me, it was fun!  Look forward to the next movie together!

Feel free to drop suggestions here in comments.
