Not a quagmire?

I’m sick of the rebuttals and refutations from rightists who staunchly support Bush’s preemptive and unilateral action in Iraq.  Oh, no, it’s nothing at all like Vietnam, they say, the casualties are so small compared to Vietnam.

Oh f*cking bite me.  Today’s loss of six soldiers on a Blackhawk helicopter doesn’t reassure me at all.

Let’s compare them, maybe I just need to reset my perspective:

Vietnam

Iraq

President used misleading information to encourage American public’s support

President used misleading information to encourage American public’s support

Anyone who protests is labeled un-American

Anyone who protests is labeled un-American

There are casualties in the tens and hundreds every day

There are casualties every day – the average rapidly increasing from two a day

We’re at war

Mission Accomplished!  We’re winning the peace!

Oh yeah, I can see a HUGE difference, can’t you?

Military technology has improved since Vietnam; there were no computers or microchips anywhere in Vietnam, leading to a greater percentage of casualties.

And the propaganda machine has better technology, too; they can pin-point plant journalists with live feed, use numerous editing softwares to tweak images, feed it around the world in a flash.

Look, there’s no body bags on the tarmac!  And the President dancing on the carrier assures us we’ve finished our job!  We’re safer now from all those horrible terrorists harbored in Iraq!

Yeah, a HUGE difference.

At least there’s hope that in a year we’ll be able to get another Administration in place who’ll restore our relations with the rest of the world and persuade the UN to help us sweep up after the damned elephants.

More XML tweakage

Bear with me, please -- I'm still working out all the kinks related to moving from one template to another.

I don't like the gray background in the table to the right -->

but I can't seem to find anything in the code that looks like "gray" to me.  Does anyone know whether "#efefef" = gray?  I've just changed it to "#ccccff"; if you don't see the color gray, you know it worked.  (Thank the stars for Mandarin Design; they're kind enough to provide a Web Color Chart for non-coders like me!)

Yes, some of you regulars still aren't on the blogroll -- that's on the to-do list over the next 24 hours.  I'll share the love as soon as I can!
