The press has been agog over the recent discovery of a new whale species.

What’s real news is that anyone in this day and age would contemplate killing any whale for the alleged purposes of research.

Scroll all the way down to the end of the AP article at this link and read the last third closely.  The species was discovered from research on animals that were killed for that purpose back in the 70’s; it sounds as if there might still be researchers thinking about killing more whales to cinch findings.

What if this was perpetrated on mammals we know more intimately, for the sake of genetic testing? Like humans, perhaps?

It’s okay, Mr. Murphy, we’re just putting you down for research, to see if you’re genetically distinct from other humans.  We guess there's a few more of your kind, so you won't be missed.
