Neverending

Six more inches of snow, beginning early evening and ending by morning.

I swear this winter will never end.

We had a brief threat of spring this weekend, the first sign being a flooded basement.  The snowpack on the roof melted rapidly in the 40 degree temperatures, ponding next to the house above the frozen ground.  It spilled over the sill of the basement wall and the window well, leaving a puddle in the furnace room.

Ah, the song of the wet/dry vacuum, harbinger of spring.

The kids are a bit bored with it, blasé about the wealth of whiteness.  Where December saw them ecstatic with each flake, only a guaranteed day away from school can move them to any degree of emotion.  They were actually smirking a bit this evening.  It looked promising, even as early as 8:00 pm.

But I said this last year, when it was so damnably cold, that winter would never end.

And the dormant garden bed thawed, warmed over and fed, grew lush and gave birth to tomatoes, in spite of the interminable, damnable cold.

Neverending, yes.
