| Rayne Today Searching for dharma, in spite of the weather... Tough call Let's see...should I take my husband up on the offer to go out for sushi for dinner, or stay home and catch up on blogging? It's a toss up, isn't it? Heh. Be back later to blog. 5:47:05 PM
Our much-loved Real Live Preacher attended Gibson’s “Passion” and tackles it in his blog. There’s so much buzz about this movie that it can be difficult to make sense of the statement Gibson attempted. I won’t even try to here. But I have concerns in spite of not seeing the movie; the more I read about it, the more emails I get from some of my friends about this movie, the greater my concerns. As I posted in RLP’s comments: >>A Poynter Online article by Mary Sanchez offers some constructive questions journalists could use in approaching "Passion". I find them to be quite helpful to a greater audience than just journalists.
Personally, I will not see this movie. Would Jesus have wanted this, an expediture of 25 million dollars to glorify His violent suffering? Or would He have rather spent those resources directly aiding the poor of this earth? Would He want us to spend a couple hours and $XX to sit in reverence of this graphic depiction of His end on earth, or would He rather we spent that same amount of time and resources Loving One Another As He Has Loved Us through good deeds? You will not find me in the theater; redemption won't be found there for me. << Do try the Poynter article; it’s very even handed, offers a strong opportunity for personal and private inquiry. You may even find the questions of value if you don’t see the movie. I did.
