| Rayne Today Searching for dharma, in spite of the weather... Equal rights begin at home
There's been all sorts of news today on the signing of the interim Iraqi Constitution; the press mentions clauses included that protect women’s rights and interests. Which brings to mind one gnawing, painful question: Where the f*ck are the same kinds of clauses in the Women’s representation of 25% or higher in the Iraqi national assembly is outlined by the Iraqi Constitution -- promoted by Iraqi women and supported by the Bush Administration. Nice. Yet here at home, this Administration consistently undermines women’s rights. Too bad we still don’t have 25% representation in the federal government, either. The Senate, for example, is only 14% female; the House of Representatives, only 13.6% female. This in spite of the fact that 53% of voters are women! Where is that country or countries which will defend the women of the Come on, bring it on. Or do we have to wait another 70 to 100 years before we see real equity here in the so-called land of the free? By the way…Happy International Women’s Day – to the rest of the world.
