I love Mission woodwork, the Arts and Crafts movement.

Simple, clean lines.

Unfortunately I am scrambling to design something similar to this fireplace that my husband likes -- he thinks this fireplace is too much, too busy.

I don't know if he can picture this in his head with a wider vertical wood element in natural maple, or the tiles in a simple, tumbled off-white, with a few accent tiles in a steel color that will complement the stainless steel elements in the kitchen at the other end of the great room.

I can see it in my mind's eye, crystal clear, can feel the tiles under my hands and the smoothness of the wood.

The project manager can't picture it, either; he wants it clearly designed and materials called out before he'll get a finish work quote. I think we've just hit a snag on timing with this requirement.

I might be building this by myself.
