The room looks so much smaller with two big guys working away in it, along with saws and material here and there.
But wow.
Wow.
I love the floor.
They finished it yesterday, or at least the installation portion. I took the kids to the house last night to look it over and sweep up; it glowed by the light of a halogen work lamp.
It glowed, like flesh, with a sort of living iridescence.
I wonder if it will look like that once it's been sanded and the finish applied?
I can't wait to see it, especially after the kitchen cabinets and the finish trim have been installed.
The kids are digging the room right now, just the way it is; they'd probably be happy without furniture. They eagerly swept up all the sawdust so that the entire floor was clear. Only a handful of weeks ago they were rollerblading in this same space, keeping busy while we picked up nails and screws and lumber scraps.
They giggled last night; what a great roller rink this would make, they said.
Uh, no, don't get any ideas, I warned. First one caught rollerblading on this floor is likely to lose a lot of privileges for a very, very long time.
Although that is a rather cool idea -- no, I didn't say this out loud. Indoor rollerblades with soft wheels...Nah. Move along, keep sweeping.
Cement board installed today for tile floors in the bathrooms; ductwork for the furnace to be completed some time this week as well as drywall repairs (repair wall where outlets were moved and uncover a can light missing in action, covered over by drywall). The master bedroom spa-tub will be delivered tomorrow and framed in over the weekend.
Stainless steel for the kitchen island estimated at $200 for 16 gauge, $250 for 18 gauge; need to finish design this week.
Have finish selection of tile and hardware yet this week. Did I mention I hate shopping? Ugh.
