It is with sadness that I note the passing of Hunter S. Thompson today.
As I said to a dear friend,
We live in a time where we have too few heroes, people who are brave or crazy enough or both to speak truth to power on their own terms. We are diminished whenever we lose one of these few. I'd hoped we'd have Thompson for another 20 years or so, what with Vonnegut getting on in years.
Whereever you are, Gonzo, I hope you are already reveling in your freedom. We will miss you greatly. Some may have thought you whacked, but truly, you were one of the few sane people left.
